Lutz takes on Gottlieb in the Eagle

This is my take on the segment, and I know everyone is dying to hear it. Never go on a interview show when you have no control over when or if you get to talk or reply to the host. This was just a complete waste of time. Yes, the article got a little bit more press for Wichita; however, Lutz sounded like a whiny baby in the article and on the show. Don't misunderstand me, he has points in article about DG being somewhat of a hater; however when Lutz stats "he is more interested in ruffling feathers than being credible" and questioning DG on being a basketball expert he has to have a way to back that up. DG called him out on both and Lutz had no response but to say well, cbs pays you to be an analyst so you must know something (Paraphrased). The guy is a basketball expert, while people don't agree with his opinion, he is still paid way more money than anyone here, Lutz, or myself to analyze college basketball.

Bottom line: It is still just one persons opinion, you can choose to blow it up and make a mountain out of a mole hill or ignore it.

Your take...good, bad, or different...is what these forums are all about. Just for the record, Lutz couldn't turn it down. DG would have had a field day with that. Lutz did just fine.

What would be more effective is to just stop and ignore him completely on all levels.

I agree with MK. It's not what Doug G., is saying about the Shox, none of what he perceives to be weaknesses are over the top. He's entitled to his opinion. The problem is how he delivers the message to the masses. You can just feel the condescension listening to his message. It's like razor blades cutting through my brain. As Shocker fans do we unfairly have a heightened sensitivity to his remarks? Perhaps a little, but DG is certainly being a clown and enjoying working up the Shocker fanbase.

Here is my issue with Gottlieb. He bases his argument around the singular fact that Wichita State has a weak schedule, and then plays that singular issue like a broken record acting as if that is the only criteria that should be used by the selection committee for a 1-seed. He completely ignores the rest of the criteria which makes the Shockers look great.

1) overall record. As much as Doug would hate to admit it, actual on court performance matters, and we have outdone everyone. And it's really not even close.
2) non-con SOS. Currently sitting in the 30s, right in the middle of many of the other contenders. And while overall SOS matters, the committee also understands a team has no more control over the rest of the conference than I have control over what Doug eats for breakfast. The non-con schedule reveals a lot to the committee.
3) strong opponents. While we couldn't get the big boys to agree to play us, Wichita State has played and beaten 5 teams in the non-con who are in the top 2 of their league standings.
4) no cream puffs. Of all the so called 1-seed contenders as illustrated by Doug, only Kansas tried to avoid playing dregs out of conference, with both the Jayhawks and Shockers having one opponent over 200 in the RPI. THE REST ALL PLAYED 3,4, OR 5 200+ RPI OPPONENTS OUT OF CONFERENCE.
5) Road performance. The Shockers have played more true road games in the non-con than any other contender and have a vastly superior road record. Not to mention Wichita State has a road win that it is as good as any other team in the nation.

Doug likes to focus on the one weak aspect of the Shockers resume and conveniently forget all the other factors that we know from past experience that the committee takes into account. He's a hack.
