Once upon a time, there were issues raised by the fire marshal with the number of people who were being squeezed into the Chuck. I don't recall if it was before or after the renovation; probably after.

For the record, IMO, this is a stupid discussion.

Would the students be more or less effective if they were (a) at the south end entirely, or (b) split half and half between the north and south ends or (c) all at the south end where they are now? This comes to my mind because of the tunnel effectively separating the student section within itself.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:

Your right about the tunnel, but we want the students at the west end right now because the opposing team is shooting free-throws in the 2nd half and because the defense cheers are always louder then the offense chats. See try it...DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE as opposed to offense, offense, offense. See, just not as effective.

The tunnel is kind of in a lame spot, I'll admit. It's positioned directly behind the basket where opposing players shoot free throws. It'd be nice if it was moved somewhere off center, kinda like the new tunnel.

Also, that Shocker Maniacs sign has been up there since the Clinton Administration. Could they at least update the logo or get a newer sign if that's what they're gonna use that space for?

I thought one of the problems they had with putting in the fixtures for the volleyball nets had to do with how high the water table was under the arena. That would probably cause a lot of problems with lowering the court.

How many other college basketball arenas have you been to? Alright, I'll compare. Row 7 at Allen field house feels like you are still about 40 yards from the court. Row 6 at koch, you are about 30 feet from the court. I don't like the sound system at afh either. The sound doesn't travel well like it does at koch.

Everything is great except for one little needed addition:
                  1. We need a flag pole at the top of CKA with a huge-massive WuShock Flag blowing in the breeze with spotlights shining it up at night.

The building is round. That means the seats form a circle around the court. Behind the baskets and at center-court, the seats are quite a ways away from the court. thaat's what happens when you try to put a circle around a rectangle.

Lowering the court doesn't provide any way to get seats closer to the court, it just lowers the court.

With the required clearnce at the ends of the court and on the sides of the court, the best you can do with a basketball court in a round building is to place the seating in a circle that will exactly go around a rectangle 106' long and 62' wide. that is a circle with a diameter of ~123' - let's call it 124'.

The closest seat directly behind the basket is 15' from the court. The closest seat at half court is 37' from the court. That is the disadvantage of a round building. The advantage of a round building is that it gets really loud. While the fans aren't right on top of the court, that's not important in a round building. The round roof focuses all the sound in the building directly to the floor, which is more disruptive than having fans sitting 6' off the edges of the court.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to placing suites around the top. Build around the supports that obstruct views. Would lose seats, but could possibly have as many in the suite as you might be able to push it out the back without raising the roof.

Of course, I'm not an engineer.

Okay, I am not an engineer either, but aren't engineers the one the who designed the space ship Challenger and the KC-Hyatt Hotel.

Any way, if the closest seat directly behind the basket is 15' from the court and the closest seat at half court is 37', if we lower the court 10', wont they now be 25' and 47' away from the court respectively?

Make the suites and take the corporate tix and put them there and move the season tix holders down 4 rows for the same price

                                Somewhat related - maybe

Don't we have to discuss raising the capacity at some point? I know, I know, I know about the cost of raising the roof, but I think it has to be discussed.
