  • Are Fans To Far Away From The Court @ CKA (And Other Arena Discussions)?

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT meant to be a knock on the Chuck!!!!! (I just thought it would be a fun and interesting discussion)

    -----------

I have been noticing a lot more lately, that at a lot of the arenas the seating goes almost right up to the floor. At the Roundhouse however, it ends earlier leaving a lot of open floor space; with some room for floor seats.

Do you think there would be a way we could get the seats right up to the court, thus make it an even more intimidating place to play?

    -----------

I also think the logistics of the student section needs to be looked at. I think there is a better way to get more of them in and more engaging.

Maybe where that tunnel is, they could fill it in with seats instead of just having it open with that "Shocker Maniacs" banner hanging. Then have that section go to the floor level. When I was a student, I thought having the section cutoff was lame.

    -----------

Any other things you have noticed about the Chuck (things you would change, add, etc.)?

(This has nothing to to with the arena itself, but I think the shuttle system they use from campus to the Metroplex would be great for games as well)

I guess you could make it more like Allen Field house and replace most of the seating with benches and no seat backs.:beguiled:

I don't hate you, but being accused of hating makes me hate you.

Before the renovation they did have more floor seats. There used to be about 5 or 6 rows of floor seats. They even used to have a row of floor seats on both sides underneath each basket. I was lucky enough to sit in some of those front row seats in the early 80s.

Okay, why couldn't they lower the court. I don't know, lets say 10' to 15' and then use the extra seating (at least behind the team benches) for students. I think it looks pretty good with the students right behind the benches, standing cheering and giving verbal assaults to the opposing team. I am pretty sure you could get another 300 to 500 seats.

                  Just my thoughts.

I was just saying "don't hate". There is a difference between that, and actually hating someone. No hard feelings on my end.

Idk, the water table might be an issue. Not sure how lower the floor get u more space since the court is still the same size.

I see an issue being that the baseline sections aren't particularly far away from the stands, so you couldn't lower it too much without cutting off room for the end of the court!

However lowering a playing field is plausible as I believe that is the plans for KU's powder puff team stadium.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

I've heard of taking the roof off and going up but maybe going down is realistic. More close seats would make it more intimidating.

No, the fans arent far enough away-we should add 2k to 5k more seats
