    • BYU just doesn't want to win this game

      • I keep telling myself I'll go to bed after this BYU game. But I don't know if it's ever gonna end.

        • I don't know how many terrible last-second possessions I've seen tonight. Terrible possession for USF.

          • There can't be more than a few hundred BYU fans at that conference tournament. Vegas is wasted on them.

Shocker fans would be more appreciative of that great city if we were to join the MWC.

(I know that BYU is in the WCC but I can't help but fantasize about joining the MWC and replacing St. Louis with Vegas.)

I have been doing the same thing. Glad to know there are others who share in my line of thinking.

God, that would be a dream.

I see I'm pretty popular in this thread.

Injuries like the one to Embiid (long term, NBA level player, top 25 team) are rare enough that we just don't have a good sample size to draw from to try and figure out what the Committee will do. That said, since I was asked, I'll take a shot.

Assuming that Embiid stays listed as out with the possibility to return around the Sweet 16...

If KU loses to OSU/TT in the quarters, they won't be sniffing a 2 seed and I bet they drop to a 4.
If they win the tournament without Embiid, I think they are a lock for a 2.
Something in between and I think they get a 3.

Even with a blowout loss in the quarters of the Big 12 tourney, I think a 5 seed would be the floor for KU. A 4 seed and a potential Sweet 16 matchup is not unreasonable.

                  • I would think you would want to be ultra-conservative with a stress fracture in the spinal column, especially with the future this young man appears situated to enjoy. Hopefully, he will make full recovery and does not return to action until he is fully healed.

                    • I want the young man to be healthy, 100% and have a long injury free career, and I want that to happen now, not later. Injuries suck for everyone.

That being said, there is precedence for dropping a team that's losing a stud (see Marymount) and I'd bet a lot of money he's not playing again. He's going to sit for a month, maybe more, then you're going to just throw him into the Elite 8 game? I think it's a smoke screen so the NCAA doesn't unduly seed down KU, by KU.

Hell, I'm fine if they don't want to downgrade them. Put them as the 2-seed or even if they drop the 3-seed in our region. That's a completely different team without Embiid.

The plot has been exposed. In all likelihood, he has played his last game at KU. Kevin Keitzman is on the job... And of course, he smells a rat..

They have a surgeon coming on 810whb to discuss. Will say recovery is 3-6 months. Ironically, I believe the surgeon is from KU Med.

                          • I have no problem if they don't drop KU. They still have a very good team with a ****-load of good players. Are they as good without Embiid. Of course not, but there still plenty good. I just hope they allow the young man to recover fully before putting him at undue risk. Not sure what those risks are but look at what Ron missed with a stress fracture in his foot. I would think a stress fracture in the spinal column would be something you want to be even more careful with.

Has there ever been a 2 seed with 8 losses minus their best player?
