So if the IBA game was eliminated, and the game was moved back to Koch for a game against a MEAC opponent, WSU would lose a sizable chunk of its season ticket base because of the built-in $50 for that extra game included in the season ticket package?

I'm not saying that that people should go if it's out of their budget. But if you are paying for season tickets, you're most likely ok to afford one more home game off-campus. If not, then I'd venture out and say you probably shouldn't be getting season tickets in the first place.

You think it'll sell out, Fev?

There are many people, I can't put a number on it but it's sizable, that won't attend because they can't get good tickets. I had a person ask for 20 today and when I told him the best available he said no thanks, he'll watch on TV.

I'm not saying this makes them bad fans, or makes the fan base weak or anything. Just that some won't attend.

I think the "perception" of the upper bowl being a bad seat affects this as well.

Why don't we wait a couple of months to go here. This game will be marketed to all of the season ticket holders at every home game during November and December. I would think that if the Shockers are doing well, a lot of people (there are a lot of the fan base who don't buy season tickets and look for single games to go to-I know this because I've sold my tickets to them before when I couldn't go) will go for the $12.00 and $22.00 tickets during the last couple of weeks. If the Shocks are doing well, I'd be surprised to not see 13000+ fans at this game. But whatever, I don't think that now is the time to debate this. Have a great Monday tomorrow.

This perception is a problem with INTRUST. Many think the only good seats at Intrust to be the ones in sections 101 to 105 and 114 to 118 (the $57 and $42 seats as well as the courtside seats- $102 and $152). There are only 3,428 seats in those sections and NONE of them are avaliable for the Tennessee game. There are still some lower bowl seats available but they are all behind the backboards and many people don't consider those seats very good at INTRUST either.

Shocker fans are spoiled by the roundhouse were nearly every seat is a good seat (except those in rows 33 and 34 that are sight obstructed).

SF, you continue to imply WSU's fan base is "mid major", that it doesn't support the Shockers like a major program. You feel that the WSU fan base is less than what it thinks it is while, in reality, it is probably just less than what you think it should be.

What is a major program? There is roughly 345 D-I programs of which about 84 programs would be made up of the 5 current BCS conferences, the old Big East, and the #1 rated conference last year, the MWC. Wichita State attendance last year ranked #39. That would put it in the Top 11% of all D-I programs and smack in the middle of the group of what most all people would consider major programs. WSU average attendance was greater than the average attendance of the Big 12, ACC, MWC, and PAC-12. It's attendance is on par with last year's average attendance of the SEC and Big East. Of the 38 schools ahead of WSU, only CU, Memphis, BYU, and Dayton came from conferences other than the "major" conferences.

It would also be interesting to compare WSU and the programs above them as to student populations, basketball budgets, and metro area populations.

I'm hoping this game sells out. The Shockers living up to reasonable expectations prior to that game will help greatly. I also believe this is very premature to make judgments. And like it or not, those "discounts" in the past will have their affect, particularly this early.

There will not be gaping holes, but no. I dont care. Anyone watching the game will hear plenty about Koch Arena.

Cold is an idiot. He may be a loyal idiot, but everything he did took things too far as he would resort to name calling and personal attacks versus having a discussion, like we are. Disagreements and different points of view are commonplace on most message boards. Posters like Cold and others are what ruin most Valley message boards because they arent discussions. The are penis measuring contests.

You don't? For the purpose of what we are talking about (game at IBA), I firmly believe this. Can we not win games at empty arenas in Carbondale and Terre Haute? Can we not win games at 75% empty places like Baton Rouge and Knoxville? Would I and Coach Love to see IBA sell out? Yes. But we are a loud and proud fanbase that will be there.

This statement couldnt be more inaccurate. This game wasnt put together for WSU. This game was put together for ESPN. They are paying for the rights to air this game. The promoter is using that money to pay WSU and Tennessee to play it, as well as covering a majority of other costs. Ticket sales are the gravy.

I've been to every WSU Intrust game and I have loved each one. I'm good for at least four tickets but haven't pulled the trigger yet. We have a out of town cheer competition that weekend and I told my wife she's on her own. I plan to spend the day down town and plan on drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to the event.

If they blacked it out locally, that would help ticket sales greatly. Any chance of that?

I think season ticket base is an important factor. Starting from zero takes time, especially when there are 18 other opportunities to view the team. Add TV, a few bad events in old town, and some high donors that don't like the fact this ticket isn't included and you end up with slow ticket sales. To me, to use this as a guide to measure our fan base is moronic.

For what it's worth, tickets haven't been made available to students yet either. So that's around (hopefully) 1000 - 1500 seats or so that will be filled later on as well.

As a student, I'd rather not go to IBA like a lot of people. The view is way worse than what you get at Koch. Also, you have to drive all the way down town instead of walking to Koch. However, I still wouldn't miss this game for almost anything and I hope a good majority of students feel the same.

We should run an experiment. You guys should check the ticket sales right now and then everyone on Shockernet post this on their Facebook status:

I just bought some tickets to the Tennesee vs Shockers basketball game at Intrust Bank Arena (Dec. 14th game). They aren't heavily advertising it to non-season ticket holders yet, but anybody can buy them already! There are still great seats left (some in the lower bowl at only $22 per ticket, but you better hurry). If you go to selectaseat.com and find the game you can click on the EXACT seats you want!

I bet the Shockernet network can make a decent little bump in sales, just by exploiting our Facebook network.
