I can't agree enough about a coaches show. It kills me that after each KU game Hawk Talk is seemingly on for hours with the Bill Self question and answer session being a large part. At best we get a two minute interview with Bruce and Craig and then Mike followed by maybe an assistant coach on the locker room show.

What the F is Hawk Talk?
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
      RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

Don't shoot the messenger. I work nights and Hawk Talk ties up a couple of hours of the radio that I would normally be allowed to listen to quality sports talk radio.

Although I have to admit the only data point in Marshall's contract I actually care about is the buyout amount...
          What is the buyout amount?

Good question. They don't have it updated yet, but the Eagle has a page for the coaching contracts of all the coaches at WSU, KU, and KSU. Here is the link to find the contract itself when it is posted:

Score one for Eric Sexton. This is good business because Marshall isn't done, he is just getting started. He is getting the program where it belongs, lol Gonzaga who?

Don't worry about the buyout clause, HCGM is comfortable here in Wichita.

Pretty sure I saw the buyout at half a million and then it scales down over the next several years.

Just remember the buyout is little more than pay to help us find the next great coach. Any program willing to spend the megadollars it would take to get Gregg out of Wichita (in addition to having all the other things he'd want) isn't going to flinch at 500k. It has NOTHING to do with retaining Gregg.

Spot on. For the jobs where a buyout (of any size) would be a deterrent, Marshall wouldn't be interested.

Plus, unlike some directional-sisters-of-the-poor-historically-cornfed-schools-that-will-remain-nameless, we don't need the buyout to bailout our athletic department budget due to the loss of any interest in basketball if a Duke/UNC/UK comes knocking on our coach's door.

I'm not a betting man, but...

...I'd put money on it that Marshall was offered a bigger bump than that, and that negotiated his own salary down from the offer - if that money went to his assistants.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

The assistants pool went from 376k to 501k. I think we all would have liked to see that a bit higher.

I found interesting that 2 items were removed from his package, the educational trust payment and the annuity (although he did receive current year contributions) and that he agreed not to renegotiate for 3 years.

Could we possibly have a bitter fit not just for a coach, but an entire family? The entire Marshall family is a class act, glad we have them all.

Clear that 3G understands that he needs that kind of money to lure top flight assistants and probably a nod to Mr. Forbes. I'm happy for the coach and his staff because it just means the program is getting stronger every year and this administration understands that. I'd say Sexton is earning his paycheck as well. Shoring up the basketball program and bringing in Butler to relieve Gene are great signs for Shocker athletics. And the fact the donors are continuing their support is further proof.

                                Love it!
