I agree that I'd like to see the 3 assistants and DOBO around 600k. Jans alone should make 200k at the minimum. That would leave 300k for the other 3. Okon obviously will make the least amount, but he's probably making 70 or 80k isn't he? So would 230k be enough to split between Heier and Forbes? I don't think so. But I also don't have a ton of money to contribute to the cause.

In my ideal world, Jans makes 225k. Forbes makes 150k. Heier makes 150k. Okon gets 80k. That's 605k. You could tweak a few things here and there, but I like it.

My dreams are different. In my perfect world, I make 150K. :)

I didn't specify what I made in my ideal world as I didn't find that relevant to the men's basketball team. Although, in that world, I would be one of those who could contribute to the salaries of the coaches

I believe the new scoreboard/sound system was around $2.5 million all by itself.

We are investing some serious coin in this program. It's really quite sobering to think of how things were back in '90s compared to now. Wow.

Although I have to admit the only data point in Marshall's contract I actually care about is the buyout amount...

Points well made and well taken in response to this, but let me clarify about why I care about the buyout:

              1. It's not because I'm worried in any way about Marshall leaving for anything but a really elite job.

              2. It's not because I think we need additional funding in the event he leaves. Would it be nice to have a little extra jingle in place of a downtick in NCAA tournament revenues if it's a turnaround situation? Sure. But not a concern.

              3. It IS because I'm looking for it as an indicator of MUTUAL commitment to the program, and therefore an indication of progression toward an elite - note, I didn't say "major" - program. KU insists on a large buyout, and Bill Self agrees because they are an elite program and show a high degree of mutual commitment. I'm looking for progress towards that, even if it never gets there.

              4. It IS because in a rare case of relative indifference between two candidates - let's say the University of Texas is ready to throw the bank at a fresh coach and is down to Marshall and Shaka - I want his buyout in 7 figures and Shaka's in 5.

Just clarifying. I agree with most if not all of the other comments though.

A buyout ought to be at least a year's salary.

...I'd put money on it that Marshall was offered a bigger bump than that, and that negotiated his own salary down from the offer - if that money went to his assistants.
I absolutely agree. With success comes notoriety. He values the asset his assistants are and I, too, would bet he did this. After all...all he has left to receive in Wichita is a key to the city--and that may come sooner than we think...based upon his degree of continues success.

Shoring up the basketball program and bringing in Butler to relieve Gene are great signs for Shocker athletics. And the fact the donors are continuing their support is further proof.

                      Love it!
Agree. Both sports are now in good hands.

Any kid that comes to visit has got to be surprised and impressed with what we have to offer. We're not going to get every recruit we want but we going to get some damn fine players and fantastic human beings.

The one thing that we have that many big name programs don't is the support of a huge city where from day one you are a celebrity. Not too many other programs can make that claim. WSU basketball players don't play second fiddle.

Glad to see Coach get the big bump in pay, well desearved and with even more upgrades to the arena I feel excited not only for the up coming season but the general health of the program is really good. With the fan base we have, the arena we have, and with a coaching staff second to none I see us getting the type of players that can put us in that sweet sixteen and perhaps a run to that final four area on a more consistent (not every 40yrs) basis.
