I hope this CBS group's first stop is Scott City and capitalize on its excitement and begin putting together a statewide Shocker Radio and TV network ASAP
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

        From Bob Lutz in 2010:

        Evie Haertl
        Evie, right

        Evie, right

Evie is the daughter of KWCH sportscaster and “Sports Daily” co-host Bruce Haertl, with whom I’ve worked in radio for nearly 10 years. Evie is a gem. She’s now 21 and in her third year at KU. I’m not sure what she’s studying; I’m not even sure if she is studying. I just know that Evie is a fun, bright, engaging person and I always enjoy being around her. Here’s what Evie had to say about our Facebook friendship:

“I’m 21 years old, 5’2” female (thanks for clearing that up, Evie). I met you (Bob) through your work with my dad. We’re both real life friends and Facebook friends because you need my youthful optimism and I need your mature and logical view on the world. And I enjoy talking movies with you and making fun of you on occasion.”
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

Last year coming back from Colo Springs I picked up an "oldie" rock station (like 103.7) in eastern colo and stayed with it past Dodge City. That was a lot of coverage. Pick that one up and that would cover alot of the west part of the state.

Deals for third-tier rights vary by conference. Some third-tier rights are bundled by conferences and sold to regional networks while others are retained by schools and sold individually to local or regional networks. For example, Pac-12 schools have pledged their third-tier rights to the upcoming Pac-12 Network, while the University of Texas has granted third-tier rights to The Longhorn Network, a partnership between ESPN, IMG and the university.
I have a hard time believing WSU's Tier 3 rights are worth as much as Creighton's Tier 1/2 rights.

I mean, I'd love to believe it, but it'd take some convincing. $3-4 million a year for Tier 3 rights would be a shockingly good deal. Very few schools get that much for those rights. Although Kansas is a basketball state, and KU's radio rights are worth a ton because of it.

After reading the Eagle article, it doesn't sound like we'll be getting a bump in TV or radio production value, since it's the exact same companies who will still be doing the production.

My guess is that the athletic department will see less than $1 million per year in additional revenue. Just because it may be worth $20-30 million over 10 years, doesn't mean that amount is additional over what they make now.

Not that it isn't a nice amount, but it's not going to add $2-3 mil per year to the coffers.

I would like to see a push for some more radio coverage. Not sure how they go about it, but in a basketball state and with the success we've been building and the FF run, you'd think there may be a chance to pick up at least a couple of stations to expand the area. I'm sure it would take time to build a state wide network, but even getting more of South Central on board would be a nice start. How far does a solid KFH signal go? What kind of coverage are we talking about before it gets iffy? And a couple of areas of overlap wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

The University as a whole needs to build up and expand its influence outside of the metro and sports is one way to get a foothold in other areas. We all understand why KSU appeals to Western Kansas, but there are still opportunities there and elsewhere in the state to find growth for the University.

Fair points. But any additional revenue is good. And hopefully this will eventually lead to more exposure which will lead to more money.

The primary jump in revenue will be advertising. Your new scoreboard probably plays a good part of it. Look for a lot more signage in the arena and other athletic venues. Your games will have more in-game promotions, commercials on the scoreboards during timeouts and be scripted. Anything that can have a sponsor, will. If they could, the urinal cakes in the restrooms would be sponsored.

The entire marketing program will be connected. Look for them to launch a Shocker website and other media.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I was looking for coverage and didn't think KNSS had quite this kind of range. I'm not familiar with what stations are where and who could even be interested in broadcasting WSU games if done right, but it would be nice if we had a few.

So do we know if the basketball games will be on Cox 22 or some other CBS network such as CBS Sports? Just curious?

This doesn't have anything to do with limiting or cancelling last years ability of virtually picking up every BB game on espn3.com, does it?
