I agree but unfortunately just having the media reports on this alleged incident can have long lasting negative affects on the program. Just look at the case in 2008 when a woman accused Gene Stephenson of stalking her. The case was dropped but you still hear about it. It definitely hurt his reputation.

So are you saying that any damage done to Stephenson's reputation due to this was unwarranted? If I remember the case facts, any damage done was well earned. This is all water under the bridge and best shelved and not rehashed here. I understand "one" of our seniors from last year was spotted heading for Chicago yesterday. Anyone know what's in Chicago for him? Something good I hope.

Why all the speculation, 21? Whatever happened with Stephenson is a subject for another forum and whether it had any effect on his recruiting, for example, is pure guesswork. I certainly doubt that anyone in Baton Rouge, or Austin, or small-town Iowa or Oklahoma for that matter hears his name and thinks, "Oh, yeah, the stalker."

As for the basketball players, it's hard to imagine this having any effect whatsoever on the team or players going forward; it matters inside our own little Shocker-obsessed world as a historical footnote but beyond that it will be forgotten as soon as we stop have posts like your s speculating about it, if it hasn't been already. And what's your point about "one" of the players going to Chicago -- did you want to start some new speculation or rumors?

I may be wrong but I don't beleive that was dropped, but was settled. How it was settled was never disclosed.

In this case nothing was dropped as no charges were ever brought. Apparently, the investigation did not find enough evidence to warrant charges being made. So an investigation was made and concluded with no action taken.

Possible alternatives leading to turning over to DA

1. WPD did investigation and found it warranted turning over to DA.
2. WPD did investigation and it did not warrant turning over to DA, but alleged victim insisted it be turned over to DA.

Possible alternatives by DA.

1. Evidence did not warrant filing of charges.
2. Evidence did warrant filing of charges, but alleged victim refused to press charges/testify/whatever.

Unless and until DA and/or alleged victim change their mind or more evidence is forthcoming, we will never know.
Unfortunately, each of the four seniors may be perceived by the public as perhaps having been involved. THIS SUCKS

I don't check kansas.com that often in the off season so I was glad this thread was posted. It's an important update and I don't think it shouldn't be taken down, at least for awhile.

With that said, let's leave other news out of it--like seniors competing in tournaments and getting workouts with NBA teams. It's not fair to the seniors to put those kind of accomplishments/opportunities here.

I don't see any point in further commentary about the issue, but I think closing and removing the thread is cowardly without it degenerating.

You can't hide from a news story. The investigation happened. Nothing came of it. Nothing to see, but attempting to censor out anything regarding it is wrong.

Sticking our heads in the sand doesn't mean the story didn't happen.

I guess I'd have to say I'm perplexed at the posters who want this thread deleated.

Our school and program was effectively thrown under the bus via association a few weeks ago. New news on the story broke, but this time was given drastically less exposure than the initial story. This thread was intended to give closure to a very ugly book that had been opened, to those of us who might have missed the low profile news article conveyed via the original post. So to those of you who would rather just have an open wound remain an open wound, I'd have to say I have no way to comprehend your rationalization of logic. Ignoring an issue does not make it go away.
