For anyone that is interested, here is a live cam of the UNO arena project. It will be completed next year, so Jake White will play in it. The arena has a capacity of 7,500 for hockey and over 8,000 for basketball. If UNO continues to improve, they would be perfect for the Valley.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

There could be nothing so satisfying as CU imploding one season after leaving and newly-relevant and higher rpi UNO being invited to the MVC as the new representative of Omaha in their place soon after...under the leadership of a former Shocker at PF to boot. I'm trying to think of something more satisfying than that and I'm struggling. Maybe McD or Altman also becoming head coach at UNO?

For anyone interested, UNO might be a school to keep an eye on for future Valley expansion. They, like Wichita State, are growing. As for sports, athletics are doing surprisingly well for a school that recently transitioned to D-1. Next year, Jake White will play in UNO'S brand new arena. It will seat 7,500 for hockey and over 8,000 for basketball. I've driven past the construction a few times and it looks pretty cool. It is just south of UNO'S innovation campus. Here is a video of the arena. Larger than three current Valley arenas. http://youtu.be/-jb-AS73gPM

Anyway, UNO isn't ready for the Valley today, but when MSU leaves for greener pastures in the Sun Belt, UNO might be a perfect fit.

          Nope. Soccer and hockey :)

Maybe WSU should have a soccer and hockey team both?

I believe that Ron Sayers (yep, Gale's little brother) played football there years ago.

They used to have football, but as a concession to UNL for UNO jumping to D-1, they were forced to drop football and wrestling. The regents will tell people the money didn't work, but UNO had donors willing to support both programs. The real reason was that UNO was already better in wrestling than UNL and if UNO jumped to D-1, walk ons at Lincoln would become scholarship athletes in Omaha. It's quite simply how politics works for the little guy.

Yeah, I would think that UNL wields a lot of political clout.

And UNO's AD is an ex Nebraska football player. Go figure he'd agree to cutting a competing instate football program.

IIRC the AD, Trev Alberts, informed the wrestling coach that UNO was dropping wrestling the night of or day after they had just won their 3rd consecutive D-2 team national championship.

                        http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/n...ory?id=6488960.

Wrestling coach Mike Denney got the word about his program around 11 p.m. on March 12, when Alberts called him just hours after his team had won the Division II national championship. The football coaches had heard about it just a couple of hours earlier as rumors spread through text messages from people who said they'd already read about it online.

"I said, to treat us the way you're treating us is treating us like we're trash, and you know, you can just wad us up and throw us in the trash can," Denney said. "If you keep treating people like this … within your organization, it's not going to work. It won't work."

Good luck to Jake, always like his hustle and dedication to the program. I will for sure keep an eye on the Mavericks of Omaha...

White had nine points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes in his debut with the Mavs. But he walked gingerly off the floor midway to the second half and didn’t return. The junior was in the locker room for the final minutes and was standing on crutches in the arena after.

“I’m good,” said White, who was playing his first game since tearing an ACL in practice last season. He didn’t elaborate. An unsure Hansen said he thought the issue was White’s foot.

you play to your audience quite well. without intimate knowledge of everything that is entirely speculation. but how their jump to D-1 would affect UNL most likely played a role just not as much as you make it out to be.

                                Back on topic...

Sorry to hear about Jake's injury -- apparently he's had some tough luck in Omaha. He seemed to be off to a pretty productive start, as one would expect, because he definitely has some talent and works hard. Let's hope he recovers quickly.
