I heard a rumor they would be handing out 2012 FINAL FOUR DVD for the MIDNIGHT GAME!

According to ShauxTime, that is not going to happen and that would be a waste. Why would they give those out on a midnight game? Why would they drop the banner on a midnight game?

I'm eagerly awaiting ShauxTime's, aka Mr. Sexton's, response.

nc state, maryland, auburn vs wichita state would steal the show. yes, they are all too big for their britches, so that won't happen.

but has to be a southwest'ish team? okie state? as a lark, is southern u. supposed to be really good again this year? either way, 'better get wichita state in there, in the primetime game, if you want the viewer ratings, as i've said before.

Fair enough, Rlh, but I'd rather have a decent to potentially good RPI game with aTm or LSU (who can complain about WSU's results against LSU lately?), for example, than a game against a SWAC team plus a handful of compliments. Of course, I'm not in the WSU athletic department, and for them ticket revenue figures in as well. But winning games against brand-name opponents and getting some national attention for doing so is a very good way to continue raising the profile of the program, and that has value also.

Oh, I'd definitely rather have the game. But I think it's interesting what it says about how good outsiders think we're going to be, too. I would think any major programs that thought we were going to have a letdown year would jump at the chance to knock us off while we're ranked and riding high in the public's mind.

I really hope we get involved in this. But I like knowing that major programs are afraid of us, too.

If no team will play us, they should let WSU run a live scrimmage. It would be like a political debate when one candidate ducks out and the other debates an empty chair.

Hasn't there always been some envy that the Shocks don't hold Shocker Madness at midnight like some of the Big Boys do? Well, WTH, here is our chance.

Get to bed early on Sunday night and then get a 1 or 2 hour nap in Monday before the game and you should be good to go.

In any case, do your best to see that your tickets are used if it just doesn't work for you.

If we could draw 7,500 (or whatever it was) for the snowstorm game with a team that pales in comparison to what we have now I have to believe this game may be better attended than many think. My biggest concern are corporate tickets where no effort will be made to find users.

I think he is saying that you should get extra sleep on Sunday night in preparation for not getting as much sleep on Monday night.

Maryland would be pretty amusing, wouldn't it? Too bad they only play at home against teams "at this level." (Can't lose that ticket revenue, you know.)

Read that entire thread and tell me that it doesn't sound like a bunch of junior girls getting to sneak into the senior prom. Or a bunch of Amish folk thinking that visiting the city for the first time doesn't make them country folk anymore.

Good Lord are they in for a rude awakening up there. It's going to be fun to watch the slide into Big East oblivion.. a no-namer in a conference that is a former shell of itself.

But it is nice to know that the words "Wichita State" generated so much interest on that site in such little time. If only they knew how to win games when it mattered, they could be us.

Here's a piece from CBS Sports that piggy-backs off of the Eagle's article today.

With three games already agreed to, it's now a matter of which opponent would be part of the fourth game, and that's who Wichita State would play. Baylor-Colorado, Alabama-Oklahoma and TCU-SMU are already arranged. Wichita State could certainly draw -- but who could it bring in to play? Rumors are organizers are scrambling to find a program from a major conference to pit against Gregg Marshall's Shockers, a game a lot of coaches at respectable schools probably aren't eager to play.

From the Eagle:

WSU senior associate athletic director Darron Boatright said the Shockers are part of the event, if a suitable opponent can be found. ...
“There's still an opportunity in Dallas,” Boatright said. “They are really struggling to find someone willing to play us. We're sitting and hoping somebody gets backed in a corner where they can't do anything else. We'll be there to help them.”
If the Dallas game doesn't come through, Boatright expects WSU to add a non-Division I opponent on the afternoon of Nov. 9 to open the season.

Anyone here good at pattern recognition? That's 4 games, 3 of which are already set. The opponents those three games are Big XII vs. Pac 12, Big XII vs. SEC, and Big XII vs. AAC. The fourth game--us--would go something like ??? vs. MVC.

Any guesses as to what ??? is? Any guesses as to what conference is not "willing to play us?"
