  • It pisses me off that they call it the Wichita Wildcat classic. If you want to play in Wichita so bad, there is a final 4 team you can play. Sorry but K-state is no better than KU, they are a bunch of chickenshits.

    • I'd be shocked if that game isn't a sell out. The problem with attendance at IBA has been the relatively poor competition they've had for those games. Tulsa drew well, but UAB and USM, while not bad programs, don't resignate with the average fan as a reason to shell out extra money to watch.

My budget most likely won't allow me to be there, but there's really no reason for it not to sell out.

      • I really would like to take the family but I need to know a date so I can plan. When do dates get released usually?

I can think of plenty of reasons why the game won't sell out.

1.) Jason Aldean or Taylor Swift won't be there
2.) Many fans refuse to spend money to go to the games when they can just watch it on TV, reason why I wouldn't be surprised if season tickets don't sell out this year.
3.) Wichita State fans rarely have to pony up big money for a single game ticket that run $50, 70, 100+. It's just not in the budget and worth it to them to have to pay that price for a 2-3 hour game.
4.) They can buy nosebleeds seats but seriously, nosebleed at Intrust Bank Arena really suck.
5.) Wichita doesn't have professional sports teams. So the sporting events that Wichita has like Thunder, Wingnuts are $20 a ticket at most. Paying 2, 3, 6 times that would just be foul in their mind.
6.) Being hit with Boeing's issues, "Hawker" Beechcraft, families may be wanting to spend their money elsewhere.
7.) Jason Aldean or Taylor Swift won't be there...........did I already say that one?

Last couple years, the game dates were officially announced July 18th, 2011 and July 24th, 2012.

          • I'm hoping the chance to see a Final Four team will take precedence over all those things.

I'm not sure we shouldn't do exactly what KSU does at INtrust...why not play up there EVERY year, one way or the other? Embrace the city I say. Give not only WSU alumni, friends and family a chance to see the Shocks, give the average KC fan a reason. Make it our home away from home.

Not to pat myself on the back...but I really think I'm on to something here.

Great idea, "pat" away. The majority of my immediate family resides in the KC area; although they support the 'dirty birds', they're also Shocker fans and enjoy quality basketball. Of course yours truly would be purchasing the game tickets and footing the pre-game/post-game dinner bill; they love FREE! :peaceful:

I think it could work as long as we get truly quality opponents. Teams like Gonzaga, Memphis, Louisville, VCU, or Butler would be good draws and teams that the locals love to hate would be good also. Can you imagine the talk up here if WSU played Mizzou, when KU won't.

Two teams that KU refuses to play whooping it up in their own backyard.

As long as the Shox continue to represent in the tourney (S16 or better) the interest would continue to grow. The KC Sports Radio market is really taking notice (especially 810) and the Shox continually coming to KC and playing and beating some big dogs would be the kind of stuff that would get a lot of airplay; especially when the two other schools in the state want no part of us... Makes for good talk radio and even better basketball.

                      • I was trying to think of games that might appeal to those in KC or attract people to the game. Mizzou is the obvious choice when we rule out the other in-state teams. Creighton could draw well, but I'm not sure it'd create a "buzz" within KC. Possibly an Iowa State or other XII team could stir some local interest. Outside of that, you're looking at national names from around the country, but that could piss off some in the 316 if we continue playing more UABs at IBA and say Memphis types at Sprint.

KC does have a larger talent pool that could garner some interest from "bigger" schools around the country.

                        • Any other big arenas in Low rents or Man Haten not connect with their universities? If so it would be fun to start a Shocker Classic there. Otherwise do it in Kansas City. I think KSU is far more likely to man up at this point. But neither of them have the balls of a castrated bull at this point. Our fans want it, their fans want it, neither KU or KSU have the sack to play it.

I haven't.....nor what he said to me in Atlanta. But he's not going to look good the way he came out on this deal and didn't make it happen.

                              Not good at all.
