Not sure what a drop-dead date would be for getting the CBE mess resolved. Who know we might be better off if they just cancel the preliminary round of games and play a full round robin between the WSU, Texas, BYU and DePaul with the 1st round at two of these schools (determined by random draw) and scheduled for one of the dates that were set aside for the preliminary games.

    • While that would be great 1972 that's not a possibility

      • Are we the only ones getting screwed on this CBE deal, or are Texas, BYU, and DePaul looking for the CBE to find them an opponent as well?

All 4 of us are waiting. There are only two other teams signed up. Buffalo, who we get, and someone else. So the CBE is looking for two schools to fill the spot abandoned by Canisius and the 4th spot that was never filled. So all four of us will have to end up playing a DII as part of this. At least we get a Buffalo that shouldn't be total crap in the RPI.

I'm going to guess that's being negotiated with the CBE. I'm also going to guess that some schools are torn between getting a last minute, D1 bottom-feeder that damages SoS, or whether they'd prefer a no-count D2 opponent. I'm going to make another guess that some schools that would prefer the no-count game are playing hardball with the CBE because of the guarantee of 4 D1 opponents.

Texas can throw a couple mill at their lawyers without blinking an eye. Chances are very good that they get a D1 opponent.

            • Yes, Sub, there's a tendency on here to assume that WSU is always getting the shaft and everyone else is always prospering, usually at our expense -- but as you note, that's isn't necessarily the case at all.

This year's CBE is a debacle for all of the first-tier teams, and WSU is better off, in terms of potential RPI impact, than at least the two who don't end up playing Buffalo. I know the Shocks want another D1, and I know they're supposed to get one. But do they really want a MEAC team just to get someone from D1?

The other D1 team committed to the CBE is actually Wright State who went 23-13 last year an had an RPI of 133 compared to Buffalo who went 14-20 and had an RPI of 225. We actually got the short end of the stick by getting Buffalo but they are both much better than getting a complete 300+ RPI killer.

                • DePaul has announced their two opponents for host games will be Southern Mississippi and Wright State.

Wouldn't mind playing Southern Miss again if we get the opportunity to do it.

Adding EITHER Southern Miss or Wright State would be phenomenal. Might even make me consider taking back some of the bad things I've been saying about the CBE.

CBE should pull out their wallets and pay one of those two teams good guaranteed money to come to Wichita State and right the wrong they did to WSU for waiting so long and keeping the Shockers in limbo.

                        • So what teams are committed to the CBE, other than the 4 in KC?

                          Buffalo, USM, Wright State, others?

Looking at BYU and Texas, one could surmise that Mt. St. Mary's is one of BYU's games....is SFA one of Texas'?

                          • Something has to be amiss....if freaking DePaul gets Wright State and USM and we get stuck with Buffalo and MEAC/SWAC/A-M, I suspect 3G will implode.

Good observation about WSU-Dayton, 771. It looks like they're actually supposed to be pretty good this year, so they'd be a welcome schedule addition, as of course would USM.

It reflects negatively on the athletic department IMO.
I'm a fan of them doing everything they possibly can to improve the schedule. If that involves waiting a little longer, who cares? I'd rather wait than end up with an IlSU-type schedule just so the schedule could be released 3 weeks earlier. I can't envision a scenario where releasing a schedule later rather than earlier is a negative reflection on an athletic department.
