It's unfortunate. I really thought that next year he would have improved enough to be a 10mpg, 6ppg guy. He gets more open jumpers in Marshall's system than anyone I can recall recently.
      LMAO

but seriously. He was EXACTLY the type of player that other Valley schools would recruit which is partly why I liked him so much.

      • I am not surprised. I thought there was a player who wanted to play somewhere else. White had the second-lowest minutes per game stats on the team.

He would make a great player for UNI. They play a style that exactly fits him. I hope he doesn't end up there because he's one heck of a basketball player. Unfortunately, for Jake, Marshall had opportunities to recruit some really outstanding players at White's position.

But at other MVC schools, he wouldn't have been a role player.

              • This really is too bad about Jake. He is a great kid and coached my son's group at the camp last summer so I'm sure he'll be crushed by Jake's leaving. Unfortunately, he was overshadowed by all the talent on this team and was a victim of the progam's depth. I wish him the best of luck and truly hope he ends up at a program where he will fit in well and get plenty of playing time.

                • Maybe he can transfer to K-State and help them compare more favorably with WSU. I'm sure the writing was on the wall. Best of luck to you Jake. No more pretending that my son, nick-named Jake, is on the squad. I really enjoyed shouting out "Great job, Jake, Great Rebound, Jake, Nice Hustle, Jake."

                  • WSU grants Jake White his release, sources say

                    The Wichita Eagle (Paul Suellentrop)
                    Published: Apr 11, 2013, 11:44 PM
Wichita State sophomore Jake White has received his release from the basketball team, according to several sources.

White, a 6-foot-8 forward from Chaska, Minn., played in 37 games as a sophomore and averaged 3.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 10.9 minutes. He scored a career-high 11 points in home games against Bradley and Illinois State. He grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in a home loss to Evansville.

As a freshman, White played in 21 games and averaged 2.0 points and 2.2 rebounds.

White signed with WSU in November 2010. He averaged 23.3 points and 11.8 rebounds as a senior to earn second-team All-State and All-Metro honors.

Should White continue to play basketball, he would have to sit out a season if he transfers to another NCAA Division I school. He could play immediately at a lower level.

                    • I am really sad to hear this news. I really like Jake White a lot. I hope he is very successful wherever he goes. He will always be a Shocker in my book.

                        • best memory i will have of jake is the tip in against gonzaga at the buzzer at half. That helped weather the storm and kept a 5 point lead i believe. great representation of what kind of player and toughness he has.

                          • So do I....I've gotten to know Jake and his family a little over the last 2 years and they are WONDERFUL people.

I hate this part of college athletics...I understand it, and often times it's even exactly what benefits BOTH parties, but I still hate it.

Jake will take with him a .667 NCAA Tournament winning %, a Final Four ring, a conference championship, a 57-15 career record at WSU (that's a .792 winning % folks) and hopefully memories to last him a lifetime. Jake will be successful wherever he chooses to continue his career, but more importantly, Jake will be successful in life. Great kid and he will be missed, a lot, by this fan.

I hope Jake is there Monday, and I hope the city gives him a hell of a thank you.

                            • Good Luck, Jake. May the refs you get in a different conference not eff you over so much!

                              Seriously. Very good player leaving.

                              • we got Karon Bradley off a final 4 team and he went on to have a good career at wsu and went to a sweet 16 with us. I hope Jake goes on to have a great career. I think he will be heavily recruited by some good schools.
