I tend to agree. I don't know what was possibly said maybe through PM's, but I overall like the guy, even though he can fly off the handle at the worst of times, i.e. now. He definitely keeps the place fresh and entertaining, which I like, and he definitely is 100% WSU.

I guess we could see MTXE, the poster, back here pretty soon..
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

Even during the Shockers greatest run in half a century some attention whore(s) still want this week to be about him/them.

          • The thought hit me hard this afternoon that we seem to be caught up with the names on the front of the jersey. While I think UL is a very fine team and we will need to continue to play at the same high level we've displayed this entire tournament...I just don't see this team as a juggernaut. This is not an explosive offense. Here's how I see it playing out.

            - Clog up the middle while denying the drive and dishes. We've met some damn good guards this tournament and rendered all of them ineffective - Woodall, Pangos, Galloway and Craft. I've watched Craft drive to the bucket and around in circles all season long - Armstead & Cotton was having none of it. I simply believe that Cotton and Armstead match up well against Smith and Siva. I may be proven wrong but I've just got a strong gut on these matchups.

            - Dare them to take perimeter jumpers. I will say if UL is hitting their outside shots then it's going to be a long day. Got to pick your poison in a game like this.

            - Handle the press while keeping turnovers at a manageable level. Marshall will have a week to prepare these guys with a plan to take care of the ball. We're going to have a few turnovers, even some atomic bombs but I don't see this team coming unraveled from defensive pressure. It hasn't happened all season long and this team is locked in.

My biggest concern isn't so much the opponent but rather the stage. Just as long as they don't get caught up in the media circus, playing in a packed dome and all the bright lights then I think we've got a shot.

              • You know, the more I think about it, I think we have a very good shot of beating Louisville. The teams we struggle with are the ones that have loads of spot up shooters, or jump shooters who run off of a million screens each possession looking for that one shot. Louisville is capable as a shooting team, but they thrive on defense and transition to generate points. Their fans talk ad-nauseum about how great their defense is, and it is very good. However, it is predicated on making the opponent panic and speed up. I have not yet seen a single opponent all season cause WSU to panic (even in our losses). If anything, sometimes I was begging them to show a little more urgency than they were. Even with the shot clock running down against Ohio State, the team never rushed and kept looking for the best shot (and often got an open layup because of it). This sort of patience can cause a team that wants to run to panic and make their own mistakes. This may be the one thing that playing in the Valley helped us with. We certainly wanted to run against them, but we were forced into a slower game and it developed patience.

Basically, Louisville and the Shocks have won all their games to this point by forcing teams into doing what they don't want to do. It really is going to be a matter of imposing your will on the other team. Based on what I've seen, I think the Shockers have a stronger will (along with no pressure). Also, it's easier to force an athletic team to try and be jump shooters than the other way around. And with Cotton on their star SG, I like our chances.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I believe so, but MTXE denied it adamantly.. :uncomfortableness:

When we lose games, it tends to happen when we're stuck in grind it out, half court mode. Check the Evansville, SIU, UNI, Indiana State, and Tennessee scores. Notice any similarities? All pretty much in the 50's or around 60. We can win playing in the 50's but our odds of losing increase dramatically. I'd prefer playing up tempo as much as possible and Louisville will try to do with this with the press. The key, obviously, is to successfully break it and not stupidly turn the ball over.

I think 60 is gonna be difficult too. If we can miraculously get it close to 70, I like our chances a lot. Anywhere below 60 and we're in trouble.
These thoughts are also my thoughts. Fever nailed it.

                      • What are those magic numbers for victories? If we shoot 40 percent or better and score at least 70 we've won every game? I can't remember but at minimum that's going to have to happen to stand a chance.

So far, we are 18-1 when we score 70 or more points, 14-2 when we keep opponents under 60. When we lose, we average 62 PPG, and when we win we average 71.9 PPG. So I'd say those are your magic numbers. Basically, we have won when we've scored 70 points.

I believe that Louisville and Syracuse are better teams than Wichita State.

You will have to forgive me after the last two weeks if I tell you that I think WSU could play pretty well against anyone else.
As Gregg said, "YOU GOTTA BELIEVE".

                              • Don't associate Dukes softness with inability to get it done on offense. They were top 3 in offensive efficiency before louisville got a hold of them. There's a reason they couldn't score and it wasn't because they are soft. They're always soft.
