Hi! I'm a reporter from ESPN. I don't have the foggiest clue about you, or really even care. I'm just here because, well, I have to be. So, since there are now several job openings in big BCS conferences, and you are still at a lowly conference, it makes sense that you are wanting to someday be a coach at a big BCS program. And since your program is in the sweet 16, you obviously are at the top of said BCS program's list. How do you deal with your constant desire to get out of the hell hole mid major program you are at? Especially given the fact that these BCS programs that have job openings have demonstrated not only ingratitude to their coaches for winning basketball, but also the desire to remain absolute unloyalty to these coaches for all the hard work and dedication they have given to the university. Don't you want to go to one of these programs for 2, maybe 3 years and begin the process and hard work needed to satisfy an ungrateful arrogant bunch of alumni, boosters and administrators?
How do you continually resist such temptations? C'mon, how do you do it?"When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

So I've watched several La Salle games now. The Ole Miss game twice. Galloway is extremely talented, and their guards are all quite good. They've got a lot of speed, and they cut to the basket very well. Also very unselfish players and they pass the ball on the perimeter a lot and do so very quickly. They do a good job of passing around for the best three point shot, or cutting to the rim near the end of the shot clock. I think Galloway has a pretty good shot at making the NBA ... most of his 3s seem to come from NBA range.
But while I know a lot of guys on here were comparing them to SIU or some other teams we've played ... they remind me the most of Detroit. Quite frankly, I'm worried about us playing a team that has a good zone defense. La Salle won't be playing zone against us unless they completely change their game. They're a fast, athletic, up-tempo offensive team with man defense and initial pressure.
We have a significant size advantage. We're going to dominate them in rebounds. We're pretty good at handling the type of pressure they bring, and I think the experience against VCU is going to be big there -- I'm pretty confident in both Armstead and FVV dealing with their pressure. They're going to play 6-7 guys against our 10, so depth will be on our side. We're better coached, and much better defensively. And, quite frankly, I thought Ole Miss' defense was pretty terrible against them, and they wouldn't have beaten either Kansas State or Ole Miss if either team had shot their FTs anywhere near their season average -- K-State at 53% and Ole Miss at 47%. La Salle dominated both in FT%.
And 13's my lucky number.
La Salle can definitely overcome all of that if they have a great 3 point shooting night, or if we just can't get a basket to fall -- we all know that's a real possibility with this team sometimes. But we're the better team. And by a pretty hefty margin, I think. As long as we play our game and they don't play monumentally over our heads, and as long as we respect them as legitimate Sweet 16 team, I ain't scurred.
So my prediction: 79-67, Witches.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

I'm told that injured La Salle center Steve Zack practiced today and could be available vs Wichita State.

And according to the La Salle coach on the presser their big man has been cleared to play. Still unclear how much or if he will play as he is out of game shape. He did mention that they will use 2 bigs at times when their big man is available and 3 guards. That's how they started the year until he went down. Then they went to a 4 guard out of necessity, although they played 4 guard line-up last year as it was their best lineup. He said it really doesn't matter which way they play. Although subbing a 6'10" guy in for a 6'2" guy definately makes them a much bigger team."He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

First of all, we would not have lost many games in the Valley Race if we would have been healthy. Likewise, few teams would have kept winning if they lost their most accurate 3 point shooter in Wessel, their very best player as we did Carl Hall, and another starter that plays good on both sides of the court in Baker for 21 games. Folk know who Baker is now and without him it would bite.
Thus, we are better than advertised. Yes, we better play our A game because all teams in the 16 left standing are very tough teams and used to winning including La Salle. We just need to do our talking on the court. When we win, who do I want in the Elite 8? Arizona!!! Why? Their defense is not ranked as high as Ohio State. Defense wins games from here but we must also hit our fair share of shots.
I think we could also gain a very nice rebound edge versus La Salle whether their big man plays or not. That could be a game changer too. However, to do so means we have to be 'quick on quick to the loose ball rebounds' because they jack up loads of 3's which means long rebounds.
I really hope Hall and Cle stay out of foul trouble and we can get the ball inside to them without turnovers in key spots. If so, I think our 2 bigs can do some serious damage. How about keeping our turnovers to 10-12 or less? It is difficult to do against a quick and grabby team, but that would help us immensley as well.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
