Looks like flying into Ontario or Palm Springs may be a bit cheaper at least on a Wed-Sun trip.

Palm Springs is a two hour drive. Orange County is also an option.

If you're going to go Wednesday Sunday I highly recommend Priceline. A few people I know already booked at 350 round-trip. They used Priceline for the hotels as well. Downtown LA and four-star was 60 bucks a night.

Priceline is now 700.00 + for a flight unless I am doing something wrong.

Orange County is a great option as well, plus there's a nice statue of the man Mr. Wayne in the lobby.

I've flown into Orange County several times - never into LAX - so I can't speak for that airport too much, but the ease of use of the airport is great. Little lines and easy to get through.

Don't know how prices will compare to LAX though or other area airports.

497 from KCI to LAX for Wednesday-Sunday - if driving to Kansas City is an option for people. Quite a bit cheaper than from ICT.

If I fly into one airport and fly out of another are there provisions for me to be able to drop off my rental car at the second airport as long as they have an office there?

Be very careful with this. There is usually an astronomical fee for different site dropoff.

Why don't you just pick me up on your way from North Carolina?

I fly to the LA area all the time and do everything I can to avoid LAX, it is a mess. Orange County is a very good option, but can be pricey at times, plus the flights tend to be mostly full, so the likelihood of cheap tickets this close to departure is slim. Long Beach is available, but I haven't flown in there in years (flights were getting limited the last time I did). Ontario would be another good option to explore. Sorry for no pricing info, but hopefully impressions of the options will help.

I would just as soon fork out the money for a charter if I am going to be in the 700 to 900 smacks range anyway.

Sometimes they will, but usually there is an extra charge, especially at airport locations. If they get cars poorly distributed they will basically let a cuatomer be the one to move them. Sometimes I have been able to get Enterprise to do that. Can't hurt to ask. If you get an agent to agree to it, get a name and an immediate confirmation with pick-up/drop-off location and all the charges. Keep that with you in case there is a disagreement.

To me LAX is the best option, if price weren't an issue, b/c it isn't that far to downtown.

Burbank is another option. I think they still unload the plance from the front and rear right onto the tarmac, which is kind of cool. (The weather always being great)
