Put down the 'Nati Light and go get some sleep. You're just not making any sense right now young man.
I do agree on all points, but it seems like bad **** happens when him and his crew do our games, this one and the 1.9 disaster in st louis just on the top of my head and im sure there are others. BTW been sipping on Jack and coke, not a nati light kind of guy

His home margin for fouls called for WSU is pretty low (-6 last year, negative most years and as low as -11 one year) but of course number of fouls doesn't necessarily mean anything. He has done an crazy number of WSU games though (69 total).

        • I'm going to go throw up now. This looks too much like 06-07. I don't know what happened, but something did. Let's hope Marshall is better at pulling a team out of a tailspin than Turgeon. He didn't all of a sudden forget how to coach. I don't care if it was a bad call on the goaltend. If we are tied with SIU with 10 seconds to go, we derserve to lose. You can't give up 18-2 runs in every single game and expect to win. Marshall is getting paid 1.5 million per year to answer these questions, so I'm going to have a little faith that he can get this back on track.

          • “We’re just running a dribble-drive offense, two senior guards,” Marshall said.

I think I've figured out why the Shocks can't score...

I know it is supposed to allow a lot of options, but I can't stand the dribble-drive.

            • Against a man to man that my work; not to sure against a zone. Crisp ball movement usually works best against a zone.

              • That was probably Fred's best 13 minutes as a Shocker.

                • Just listened to part of the archive and found some interesting numbers. I attempted to track whom was in the game from the point where we led 13-12 until the point where SIU led 43-36. This included our big run and their big run. These are points scored/allowed while these players were in the game during this time (as close as I could come):

                  Team Points/Allowed / Difference
                  Jake White 20 - 10 = +10
                  Fred VanVleet 18-8= +10
                  Tekele Cotton 14-6= +8
                  Eheme Orukpe 10-3= +7
                  Demetric Williams 17-23 = -6
                  Malcolm Armstead 11-24 = -13
                  Carl Hall 9 - 22 = -13
                  Cleanthony Early 3 - 17 = -14
                  Nick Wiggins 9 - 23 = -14

Most points scored by team when in game:

                  White 20
                  VanVleet 18
                  Williams 17
                  Cotton 14
                  Armstead 11
                  Orukpe 10
                  Hall 9
                  Wiggins 9
                  Early 3

Fewest points allowed by team when in game:

                  Orukpe 3
                  Cotton 6
                  VanVleet 8
                  White 10
                  Early 17
                  Hall 22
                  Williams 23
                  Wiggins 23
                  Armstead 24

It would appear by looking at these numbers that the most efficient players (by position) would be:

                  1. VanVleet
                  2. Williams
                  3. Cotton
                  4. White
                  5. Orukpe

That would leave most of the offensive firepower on the bench. Possibly the ones above are the better "team" players.
Probably just useless information. Oh well :)

All excellent points. I want to add that not only didn't Higgins make that (atrocious) call, he would NEVER make that call. EVER. He's not going to decide a game on a borderline (bad in this case) call, ESPECIALLY when the pushoff/charge and the walk thereafter were passed on.

For a moment, I kind of expected John to bail Randall out by coming in late with a travel, but it would have been so late I don't think he felt comfortable with doing that. I would kill to know what was said after the game amongst that crew.

Does anyone know what happened as time expired? Was Gregg calling timeout? Was anyone? We've run that play before and gotten an immediate TO (see VCU) and I can't understand why we didn't call one there. Or why we weren't granted a TO.

I believe Gregg was giving the timeout signal and yelling for a TO when Carl was receiving the ball. I don't know if he let them know ahead of time he wanted one, so the officials would be prepared to call it, or if he was waiting to see who the pass went to. It did appear to me he was calling for a TO.

                          • I've had a night to sleep on this game and I am still PISSED. Cleanthony Early needs to get a little smarter out there and stop complaining about stuff. The kid needs to grow up some. He's got all the talent in the world but with little to no basketball IQ, he will not be NBA caliber. That said, the refs absolutely blew this game for us. How many fouls against us and how many fouls against them? Exactly. And the call at the end? WTH!

It's hard to win on the road as it is, but when you're playing 5v8 (refs), it makes it pretty hard. But coach Marshall wasn't making the necessary adjustments during the game and he was yet again outcoached. Barry Hinson is the freaking man and Marshall got owned again. Just tell your team to drive to the hoop or throw it inside! I could freaking coach this team. Did anybody see Orukpe towering over those dudes down low?! Throw him the dang ball!

Well, we just gave away the Valley but we can still get a solid second seed and take our chances in the tournament. Right now I would say we are a 10-11 seed in the NCAA. One more bad loss and we are squarely on the bubble.

                              Very reasonable.

I thought he (HCGM) would set up a pass to mid court & call a TO to set up a half court offense/last shot.

But it is on HCGM to communicate to the official closest to him he intends to call a TO once the pass is made.

On another note, as predicted, the sun came up this AM.

But I'm still fuming over last night.
Above all, make the right call.

                              • Higgins called the double foul. I don't care how good you guys think he is, I think he sucks. There are 100 reasons why we lost, not just the officiating, but bailing that guy out at the end by not calling the lowered shoulder and not calling the travel, is one reason.
