The early substitutions were awesome. Then the subbing stopped and we became stale. At the end of the first half Jake White was the only one showing MTXE. In fact he got our first layup in the second half after Cle and Hall drew fouls.
The boat was taking on water until Captain Van Vleet came in. More FVV please. The freshman has more poise and better decision making skills than our senior does right now.
The game also turned around when EO hit the floor. Two big defensive stops that led to easy offense. More EO please.
We seem to have a team that perhaps has spent most of its fuel. We probably weren't as good as our 19-2 start suggested but the Players really pulled together with a one-for-all and an all-for-one supreme effort. For whatever reason we seem to have lost that intangible and maybe the phsyical and mental strain of overcoming our critical injuires has finally caught up with us, because the fire under the team just isn't burning very hot right now and we seemed to have lost that all-in for the team attitude and mentality. Burn out, not a pretty sight.
Question is can the team find a refueling station? I don't have the answer for sure.
The 2004-05 Shockers started 18-3, then went 2-6 down the stretch to finish 20-9 and land in the NIT. We then won twice in the NIT to finish 22-10.
The 2012-13 Shockers started 19-2, then went 0-3. 7 games remain + the MVC tournament. This will either become an epic, epic collapse or we will right the ship and this will be a distant memory.
Wiggins only attempted 3 FGs for the game. He needs at least 8-10 attempts. He's either not getting himself open or there's some other reason. Putting him in for his offense doesn't do any good if he's unable to shoot.
I don't want to hear about poll rankings ever again this year. I don't want to see anymore discussions about KU playing WSU. I shouldn't see anyone discuss NCAA seeding in the 8 or better range. The regular MVC championship is officially over. I don't want to see anyone bitching about Detroit in the bracketbuster. In fact, we should be happy about that team coming in as it will be important top 100 win if we have any chance of getting into the dance.
This team freaking SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS and SUCKS some more at offense. We're essentially playing 3 on 5 out there. No way should we lose to an overmatched and undersized last place MVC team anywhere.
Oh well, we better get used to this loss because we got at least 3 more coming (@CU, @ISU b and ISU r) if not more. NIT here we come.
Wow, agreeing with KC... especially the nonsense about poll watching.
Marshall has to wear this one. Why did EO, who had his best game of his career against SIU play only eight minutes? Why did he stay with Armstead the way he's been playing when VanVleet is showing the ability to beat their defense?
I understand keeping Williams in since he was our leading scorer, but it should have been FVV, DW or TC, NW, CH and EO down the stretch. This game reminded me of Turgeon's upperclassman-loyalty-to-a-fault.
There will be no more national COY talk that includes Marshall, sans an unlikely run to the Final Four.
The rest of the league (Coaches) have figured WSU out and they have been exposed.
They now appear to be a bleeding carcass on the high seas with the smaller fish picking them apart.
No way in any scenario should a bottom feeding team like SIU, who ISU-R just blasted by 30+, beat Wichita State.
A bigger problem is the PG situation. We now possibly have a better understanding why Dana and MA parted ways.
Our PG is the one player who is not allowed to make poor decisions. If he does, he is no longer the PG.
Our current PG is making them one after another.
It is time for another PG to take the reigns
It is also time for HCGM to make the proper adjustments the rest of the league has made.
If corrective measures are not made ASAP, this team will find itself squarely on the bubble - of the NIT.
