Through the pirated Shockervision feed, I heard Mike call for Jake for POG during the commercial break with the mic still hot, simply for the fact that he didn't know how many more chances Jake had for POG the rest of the year. I think he was spreading the love, something you need to hone in on a little more..
Mike is a good man for spreading the love but he needs to get a handle on his hot mics. We don't need anymore F#@K OFF BUZZ moments... Not that MK has ever uttered a foul word in his life.. he probably hasn't.
I agree. Jake was good. However, this game goes to Armstead and wiggins first. Jake might have an argument for player of the cleanup crew because he dominated during a time when people get loose or unmotivated. There really is something to be said for that, much like diving for loose balls. Jake is another one of those guys that you chalk up to the " how good is this team if a player as solid as jake white is that far down on the rotation"
He would play significant minutes anywhere else in the valley. I'm sure he would gladly take championships instead.
I will add this. He rebounds like hall sometimes. He will be a force as an upperclassmen. Just not a super athletic one.
Athletes are nice, but WSU has plenty of those -- results and smarts are nice, too, and the Jake White who played tonight can bring those in abundance. Anyway, the radio guys like to spread it around and give us a chance to listen to different players, so that's no doubt why they chose him. But certainly no one could complain if Armstead had been chosen instead (thanks, Dana!), and ESPN did list Mal as WSU's top player.
Still, Jake was really good, and I hope they fix the box score to give him his double-double. (Maybe if WSU ends up in California for the NCAAs someone will take him to In-N-Out Burger for the double-double he may or may not get credit for tonight. That wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.)
Looks like worst case scenario is that we will be #15 on Monday. If we are worse than that, I will concede that a conspiracy exists.
I'm glad that we're spending so much time arguing over one place difference in each of our conservative estimates. You believing we should be at worst #15 is such a huge difference from me believing we should be at worst #16. We should keep arguing over this until only one of our numbers survives. This is very, very important.
Most of that I had already edited into my post before you had responded to it. Granted I called New Mexico UNLV.

No worries, wouldn't have responded at all if you hadn't douched it up by starting your post with:
Because we're so likely to get the benefit of the doubt in the polls? You realize we that at 19-2 we've spent a combined three weeks ranked this season, right?
Only be condescending if you're right, as a general rule. Also, we've been ranked 4 weeks.
Well aware of all the facts you cite to, including the ones you got wrong (UNLV = / = New Mexico). You're just not giving credence to how poorly the teams in front of us played this week.
Teams that may leapfrog us:
#25 Miami (won vs. #1 Duke 90-63, vs. FSU 1/27 6 PM)
Teams that we will jump:
#19 VCU (lost @ Richmond, lost vs. LaSalle)
#18 NCSU (lost @ Wake Forest, won vs. UNC)
#17 Creighton (lost @ Drake, vs. SIU 1/27)
#15 New Mexico (won vs. Colorado State, lost @ SDSU)
#12 Minnesota (lost @ Northwestern, lost @ Wisconsin)
#11 Kansas State (lost vs. #3 Kansas, lost @ Iowa State)
That puts us at #15 if Miami jumps ahead of us, #14 if they don't. However, there are more teams that we may or may not move ahead of:
#5 Louisville (lost @ Villanova, lost @ Georgetown)
#9 Butler (lost @ LaSalle, won vs. Temple)
#13 Michigan State (won @ Wisconsin, @ #7 Indiana 1/27 1 PM)
Looks like worst case scenario is that we will be #15 on Monday. If we are worse than that, I will concede that a conspiracy exists.
As of 5pm yesterday, the stat of the week was that of the 19 teams ahead of us, 11 lost to UNRANKED teams this week.

This is something very common that Mike does. His POG is the guy they most want to talk with and they try to spread that around as much as possible so that the fans get to hear from as many of the guys as possible during a season. So they will take an opportunity like last night to catch a young man they have not interviewed. I like that they do that. Most fans understand that's the deal and also have a good feel which players had the most impact on a game. I'm surprised this is even a topic since this has been Mike's approach for many years now.
