I love where our program is now. We have THE perfect coach for Wichita State. We're financially in good shape (not easy in today's world), we're getting great publicity and we're in the top 10% of all programs by almost any measuring standard you want to use. The positive accountings of the program outweigh the negative ones about 317 to zero. Nobody is perfect, and I certainly am not saying we are, but our collective noses are pretty damned clean. We're getting improving offers all the time to play X team at Y event...and I suspect 90% + of us will be happy with the upcoming schedule next year. Very few WSU fans are more critical than I of our schedule (I still wish we'd seek out 1 or 2 atomic bomb games) and I know I am the top 1% when it comes to hatred of our in state brethren (although my respect for Coach Self has softened me down to a thermonuclear meltdown stage from the dwarf star collapse stage where I spent most of my life).
All that being said, I couldn't care less if we played either in state school and at this point, eff 'em. I'm not sure I'd even take the call if the phone rang at this point. I like Marty's scenario. Let it slow simmer until we're forced to play in the tournament. You think they don't want to lose to us in the regular season.....well my friends, wait until the panic sets in when it's another tourney matchup and if basketball gods see fit to make this happen, this fan will fear no outcome but you know the entitled fan base to the north will not enjoy the proceedings. And if it so happens that our kids are able to summon their inner Mike Jones into a modern day David, then the colossal meltdown will be something to watch indeed.
If and until then, just (continue to) win baby.
Go Shocks!
