Minnesota (4-1) vs Wichita State (5-0) Game Discussion: Nov 28 (Thu)

This isn’t 5-10 years ago. It’s a new time and era for MBB and this was building block type of win and I find satisfaction in that.

He makes a couple good plays then makes some of the dumbest decisions you will ever see on a basketball court.
The last T/O after the time out was mind numbing. When he started his version of a drive into 3 defenders, Hill was wide open on the left perimeter.
Yet...
Bell still made the move to drive the ball into three Gophers?
Why?

Gotta give the team credit for gutting it out when things looked rally bleak!

I checked the Minnesota board. They aren't delusional. They were a little - let's call it "frustrated" - by not fouling with 4 seconds left in regulation but fouling with 4 seconds left in OT. They blame their coach at about the same level as SN'ers blame ours - maybe more.

Yes, unfortunately.

But what if? Wake gets hot today and upsets Florida. Then Wake sleeps through the alarm clock warning tomorrow during prime time and the Shocks win, win, win?

The Gophers had some solid teamwork on inside penetration plays. They may need to have players make 10 throws b4 showers after practice. The Shockers slowed Garcia to a very mild roar and even got him fouled out. Nice!

One last question? Does this mean that Beverly is our pressure cooker "go to 3 point maker?"

Putting the ball in Bell's hands in that moment is 100% on Mills. It could be argued that at least Bell had some success in earlier possessions and Hill hadn't. So I'm torn on whether that was the right decision.

Here is my takeaway after letting the game sink in and examining the box score . . .

Minnesota did a really good job of taking us out of our driving game. We didn't make up for it by having a better-than-average shooting day. Made crucial mistakes in OT. Our most effective player in the game fouled out with five minutes to play in regulation. And yet we won.
