Regardless, it's not like there is a wave of younger coaches leaving because of NIL, it's all older guys who could have retired for any reason.
I'd respectfully say take off your blinders. Griffin is financially set for life and it's completely plausible he'll chose to never coach another day in his life. Doesn't mean he won't but he'll never have to work another day in his life if he so chooses.

He may be all that, but it won't matter if the big boosters are not on board. Without the NIL dollars from them the coach has no chance right now.

Is it so hard to believe that a HC in his fifth year with the program and no NCAAT appearances is on the hot seat? Doesn't mean it will happen, but it has been rumored.

I never said anything about Griffin, I just pointed out that there has not been some mass exodus of college coaches who were not already at the point of retirement when the NIL/portal nonsense kicked up.

Griffin might have no interest in coaching again, my guess is as good as yours on that.

Gotta have the right coach on board before we can expect NIL to step up. No one realistically expects that even with huge NIL that our current staff can find or coach the players

            • I will say there were a number of football coaches/coordinators that have openly said they left for the NFL because of the NIL and portal mess. So, while not basketball, there are college coaches that have left that aren't of retirement age.

                • Anybody read the latest Taylor article?

“The margin between whoever is first and whoever is 13 (in the AAC) is pretty slim,” Mills said.

LOL okay my guy. Sure. Also comments we’ve got the internal fortitude and just need to shore up defense a bit. This guy is so lost honestly

There are definitely examples of that, no denying it, but the overall percentage seems to be small (we just hear more about the people who are vocal about NIL and the portal because it's noteworthy). That's why I said that we haven't seen a "mass exodus" of coaches leaving college.

It would be interesting to see the numbers on coach movement between CBB and the pros before and after NIL/portal as well as the number of college coaching retirements per year.

                    • Why would someone making millions a year retire and lose that paycheck? Certainly not any younger coaches. The old guys who are set for life don't need the big paycheck and are more likely to leave because of NIL/portal.

This is proof he hasn't got a clue.

And he knows nothing about coaching defense and his history as a HC only proves that.

                          That would apply to Griffin

The one reason he would come and coach is if he really wants to be a coach again one day, and he knows that the longer he's out the game the more likely he becomes old news and can't find any job he wants.

That, or he really wants to coach at WSU and knows that he needs to take the job when it's offered. Sort of like being really comfortable in your house, but when your dream house in that one neighborhood hits the market, you know you need to jump on it.
