Quite a drop in the AP, from 23rd to 34th, with only 6 receiving votes. I guess the name "Evansville" is still pretty damaging to the media, despite the team's only 2nd loss of the year, on the road, out 3 starters, against a team with an RPI in the 70's.

Either the AP voters have no respect for UE or they saw our 22 turnovers and it gave them pause about our previous ranking. I'm betting it's the former.
But to give an idea of how they think, they penalized UNLV (#24) for losing by five AT #25 New Mexico (rankings when they played). Reasonable people who understand the game would expect such a result, given home court advantage. It makes no sense to vault UNM six spots to #19 and drop UNLV six spots to #30, even with what other teams did. AP voters always do this when two closely ranked teams play each other. The loser, even if it's a close, expected loss (based on these very rankings) on the road, will take a hit.

The other part is just how the poll works. when you're in near the bottom, the vote numbers can take large swings. If a lot of people have you in at 20-25, just dropped you a few spots takes you out of most ballots, causing you to get no votes, even if someone would otherwise have you at 26.

At 1:45pm, RealTimeRPI has WSU at #21, projected to be 25-5 with losses at UNI (68-69); at IndySt (67-70) and at Creighton (67-81).
Our ten projected wins are by average of 11.7 ppg. Bracketbusters is, obviously, not included in the projections."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:
