    5. Creighton

Alright, let me explain number 5. I have to say I think we'll beat them more than 50% of the time because we will beat them at least once in the conference season, and once for the Valley Tournament Championship!

On an honest note though we have solid reasons to be ranked above those other teams. All of them are ranked above us because they have a "spotlight" performance, but our total resume is better and I think our team is better.
How many of those teams have played 1/3 of their games without 3 starters?
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

He asked how many teams I thought we could beat tomorrow, without 3 starters. I think that we could beat any of those teams more than half the time tomorrow.

To really answer your question though, none of them. And that is good for us, because I can't even grasp how good we could be. I'd certainly put more teams on that list if we were talking about the end of the season.

And they had home court advantage (practically).

Most of our tough stuff came on the road or at a neutral site.

My rhetorical question was more as an add-on to your points, which I agree with, and was directed at rialaigh.

I just wanted an excuse to say more stuff without double-posting. I think we all understand that this team is something special (even though some of us *cough* me *cough* express ourselves in different ways sometimes). I totally agree with your point though, I just wanted to make it clear that I was limiting myself somewhat because I think we will be even better by the nd of the season. In other words thought you were saying "how many of other teams would we beat healthy?"

oh I am sure you and I have a very similar list of teams that we beat when healthy. But to say that ranking is based on past achievments is really...not accurate. Ranking is based on Current team status, wins, losses, recent score differentials, recent opponents, injury status, etc....

The team we have is very special, very very special. I was at every home Winthrop game while greg marshal was coach here (for at least 4 years in a row) (I live in Rock Hill). I know the coach and I love the WSU team. However with people injured, fouling more than our opponents, shooting a worse free throw percentage, having almost no inside game against the zone, and still only managing to shoot 32% from the 3 point line....The only thing special about that team is the defense, and is allowing us to barely scrape wins out against mediocore teams...With everyone healthy, a totally different story...

My point was, if you look at this team as it stands injured and and missing players, I think we are lucky to be ranked top25 at all, and will be very fortunate you remain there over the next couple weeks.

              • So other teams get more credit winning with their starters intact, perfectly healthy, while a team that's still winning just as much, but with the bottom end of the bench, deserves to get penalized? Did I get that right? That seems to make absolutely NO sense. Typically, with 3 starters out on most teams, you'd see losses mounting up, with teams beginning the slide. Correct me if I'm wrong, but has that happened with WSU?

You're name isn't Myron Metcalf, is it?

They are struggling tonight but they play good hard defense for Thompson III. And they did beat Tennessee, along with UCLA.

But we are winning more than alot of those teams have.

I think they have struggled most games this season. I've seen alot of middle school girls teams score more than they do.

                              3 starters out:

Favored by 7 against UAB. Covered (by 8)
Favored by 8 against UNI. Covered (by 25)
Favored by 7 against Drake. Covered (by 12)
Favored by 3 against Bradley. Covered (by 6)

Sounds like to me we're doing better than expected and STILL winning.

Beggars can't be choosers on the road. Beggars can't be choosers when they're 14-1. Beggars can't be choosers when they're DOWN THREE STARTERS, with 2 other key players back and forth with injuries in the same stretch.

I mean, are you kidding me? What the hell else do you freaking expect? If we're gonna start picking apart style points, especially with conference road games, give me any team in America and I can do the EXACT SAME thing (and those teams aren't playing without 3 starters).

                              • Let me just say this:

WSU lost 4 starters and the top 5 scorers from a team that didn't win a single game in the NCAA's. WSU lost 3 starters off the team that followed that team.

WSU is 14-1 and legitamitely in the top 25. That's with the last ends of the bench getting significant minutes. Any further questions?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
