Well. What can you say? I watched as our boys got their butts handed to them again, and then I slept on it hoping it would be better in the morning, but it's not.

Is there a silver lining? Are we not as far off as I think we are?

How do you fall so far, after being so close to an Elite 8 two years ago?

I have the ut-most confidence in our administration and coaching staff to correct the problems that we're observing on the court.

Here's hoping that we've seen our rock bottom.

^ we went a Sweet 16 two years ago.

If you think this is rock bottom, i'm sorry to say this is nothing.

you said we went an Elite 8, right?
I'm correcting you by saying we went the sweet 16 two years ago instead of the Elite 8

and I'm saying if you think is our low point, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sorry to say that.

So, Hockey, does this mean you are ready to take the Gal "KC" Mekel tag off?

I got to where I couldn't bear to watch last night's game continuously. I chose to instead watch whales and seismic anomolies in HD (HDTV rules, I swear that HD could make watching a orangatang scratch his butt mesmerizing) and just checked periodically for whether or not the score was getting uglier.

This will be a "whatever will be, will be" season. If it keeps up, I'm beginning to think I'd rather see those who are returning next year start to get more minutes under their belt. Just hope we bounce back enough to at least make life miserable for someone else in STL.

Reread the post Paper, I said we were close to an Elite 8, meaning we made the Sweet 16.

And I didn't say we've hit rock bottom, I said I'm hoping we have, and that we can scrape our way back to respectibility piece by piece. I know we've got a long way to go, but I think that I have the right to hope we can turn the corner.

                    Preadom

From everything I've gathered, Wendell is a hard worker, a credit to his family and school, and the proverbial "fine young man."

Nevertheless, if he's already fourth on the PG depth chart, behind a freshman walk-on, his prospects for playing time certainly aren't going to improve next year unless something pretty dramatic happens -- or several somethings, like Mekel staying in Israel, Michael giving up basketball or switching schools, and one or more of the guard signees somehow not arriving. Think about it:

'08-09 PGs, in order of where they'll likely be on the totem pole (even assuming WSU doesn't sign another one next spring, which I think they will, probably from high school) --

                    Hannah
                    Mekel
Kyles (combo who has played PG in high school)
                    Michael
                    Preadom

Wendell is at best fifth in line if Mekel is still here. And it isn't any better at the 2 spot:

                    Hawkins
Mekel / Murry / Kyles in some order
Preadom or Hatch (if Hatch stays)

If Hatch is still here next year, he might well get the role player / specialist nod over Wendell because of his shooting -- WSU's zone buster -- in which case Wendell could be sixth in line.

I'm not Wendell Preadom, but it would take either a very strong devotion to WSU or a major case of inertia to make me want to be in that position, even if I were offered a scholarship to do so.

Not yet. Even KC Hunt had less-than-terrible games. I am expressing hope that he's growing out of his mistakes. I reserve the right to call him that the next time he leaves his feet on a drive or jacks up a bad 3.

BTW, I still have the $20 in my wallet I was supposed to give you for Cris' ticket on Saturday.

WP can walk-on and apply for an academic scholarship or he can get a job and a student loan so he can graduate from WSU.

In the real world, if you show no improvement and complete only 12.5% of your job responsibilities, you don't get rewarded. You get fired.

It might be a race between the Lady Shox and the Shox for best record this year........

They don't look like the same team that played UAB and LSU.

Isn't it April 15th when spring recruiting opens up?

I was only able to catch the ILS game on a piece meal basis and the pieces I saw were generally not pretty. Maybe being otherwise occupied on game night was a good thing.

One general observation I have is that is quite possible that next year's starting lineup might not include any of the players from this year's active roster. Especially, if HCGM signs a couple of more players for next year.

I suppose there are really only 4 players with a shot. Gal, Ramon, JT, and Mantas. A lot will depend on how good the guys we have coming in are.

Clevin Hannah probably will be slotted at starting point guard.
A.J. Hawkins will be tough for Gal to beat out at the 2 guard.
Sounds to me like HCGM likes Garrett Stutz at the 4. Perhaps HCGM will prefer Ramon's experience and toughness next year though.
If Ehimen Orupke shows up then the we have our starter at the 5. JT would be the logical choice as the back up 5.

Who starts at the 3 may depend on whether HCGM want to go with a bigger or smaller lineup. Could move A.J. to the 3 and go with Kyles or Murray at the 2. Mantas and JT should also be capable of playing the 3 position, but both need to show they really want to play.

And then, of course, HCGM may not be done relaoding the talent.

Message to Gal, Ramon, Mantas, JT and Aaron -- your play the rest of this year could have a big impact on your minutes next year, or at least on how hard you will have to fight for minutes beginning next year.

Hopefully, P.J. and Phil will give it everything they can just as a matter of pride.

I think AJ will be primarily a 3 (kinda like Cooz), or at least that is what I've heard? Am I mistaken?
