Right, not arguing that .. i'm just saying I don't think that qualifies for immediate eligibility anymore (or waiver)

I could be wrong though .... rules right now are clear as mud

Maybe, but what if a collective shows up and says we will deliver the best player available in the portal and it is May 2nd? Your roster is full. Could easily see that happy. Bloodthirst works both ways.

No way the NCAA won’t let the departing player transfer.

      • Looks like we need to have scholarships renewed or not on the same deadline as the portal closes.

My understanding is the 5 years to play 4 is still in place. Covid made that 6 years to play 4 but that is behind us now. Is that not correct?

For the most part, yes. COVID year was 20-21. This upcoming season will be the fourth year of "normal" basketball. There are likely still stragglers who have had injury seasons since then who will still have extra seasons. But most players have started college since the return to normalcy.

              6 years to play 5, I think.

Covid was 6 years to use up 4 years of eligibility. Most did not play a full schedule in their Covid year and some athletes did not played at all. But whether they played any or not it did not count against their eligibility or against their 5 year clock.

You will also notice that the timing of the covid rules is a little different for the Spring sports than it is for the Fall and Winter sports. The Covid eligibility waivers applied to the Spring of 2020, the Fall of 2020 and the Winter of 2020-21. So the free year for Spring sports was the 2019-20 academic year and for the Fall and Winter sports it was for the 2020-21 academic year.

So the 2024 Spring sports are now where the Fall and Winter sports will be in the upcoming 2024-25 seasons at it relate to Covid eligibility. Meaning the great majority the current Spring sport athletes no longer have an extra Covid year to use.

In any case, I am glad it is behind us although their is plenty of other issues screwing up collegiate athletics.

                  • At what point in time does circumstantial evidence become overwhelming as to tampering?

I would not be upset if Memphis gets pulled up in the next round of alignment. I think we've reach the point that they are a net-negative overall influence on the rest of the league. The harm they do isn't offset by any perceived media attention. Add to that they are the yearly poster child of underachievement.

I agree, but it is a lot of fun when WSU or other AAC "poverty programs" beat them.

I understand your thoughts, but having them in the league still 'might' help the league with recruiting. Playing an away game in a NBA arena is worth mentioning when recruiting higher level players. I know, it's debatable.

Does it really help if that player just ends up playing for them?

                            • I still don't think Memphis is all that attractive to any of the remaining power conferences, unless the PAC? gets desperate.

                              • Memphis gobbling up every AAC transfer is getting pretty gross. I hope they under achieve again next year and finally take a long hard look in the mirror and change their tactics.
