Doesn't being benched for breaking "arbitrary" rules?

The court system, not the NCAA, has killed amateur and college sports.
My reading of the ruling is that the NJCAA is NOT part of the NCAA, so should not count against the years of eligibility at the NCAA level. Not a great analogy, if you go on a mission for 2 years, those years do not count against eligibly because that organization is not part of the NCAA.

It's been clearly written, stated, and adjudicated on for decades that what starts your clock is entering any college, jook-o or otherwise.

Look there's a reason you have to have this rule. When a kid enters college, he's only 18 and will turn 19 by the time he finishes his freshman year. Say a kid goes to juco, they will have 3 years to play 2 (they can redshirt). That makes them 22 when they leave. Then they enter a 4 year school with 5 to play 4. Let's say the kid redshirts again. That makes him 23 at the and of that year and now he has 4 years to play. By the time he's a senior he'll be 27.

That's a male professional athletes absolute PRIME.

There's no way incoming 18 year olds can compete with a bunch of 27 year olds in their prime. The college experience is completely ruined.

This is just semi-pro sports now and it's not fun for the fans. The court system has ruined amateur athletics.

      • I’d hand pluck the best NAIA players in the America and bring them in as 22 year old freshman so they can work on their masters degrees. NAIA is not part of the NCAA

        • College football and men's basketball hasn't been "amateur" in the true sense of the word for some time now. We are now in this weird phase of calling this lower level professional league system still "college" as if the education part is a really important part of it. But we've had sports teams tied to schools for so long now in the US that the paradigm is pretty fixed. If football and men's basketball (and maybe other sports?) broke the connection with the university, and were just affiliated with the same town, would people care as much? Would they cheer for the Wichita Shockers, Manhattan Wildcats, Lawrence Jayhawks, Austin Longhorns, Ann Arbor Wolverines, etc.?

I'm pretty sure in most other countries, sports teams are all part of a club system that is not affiliated with schools. Do other countries have school sports teams and leagues like we do? How much less could we spend on K-12 education if having to operate sports teams and facilities were not part of the system? But then you would also have to call into question literally every extracurricular activity.

I'll add a couple more unpopular opinions. K-12 schools are less about education and more about daycare for a lot of people. College is young adult daycare for many.

When you learn new information about a person, say, their past indiscretions, you're allowed to alter your viewpoint of the person. It may be tough for some of you, but I really believe if you pull up your bootstraps and put on your thinking cap, you might just grow. It might require you jumping off the internet for a while though, which I know is tough considering you have posted on a fan forum 40,000 times.
lol I always laugh when people end their butthurt rants with post count smack. It’s such a dumb thing to be jealous or insecure about.

You should probably follow your own advice about unplugging. You have some of the worst, unhinged takes on here.

Well based on HIS post count, it sounds like he's not on here very often and probably leads a much healthier life.

So he does take his own advice.

I will confirm that this is true in USD259, especially K-5. I can't share facts. I can't share the horror stories. I can't share events. I can't share specific examples of a child and their constant repetitive, almost daily interference in a teachers duties. But this us 10000000000% true. The public school system is BROKEN especially for younger grades and something seriously needs to be done to remedy it.

As shockref would say, that is all.

So can we now assume Matej is just a freshman?

He has to sue the NCAA first, which should be a slam dunk since they haven’t won a case yet.

"...Larranaga spoke to reporters after the news became official to explain why he was ready to retire. Much of his decision was linked to the changing landscape of college sports and NIL, a familiar tune we've heard from longtime head coaches who have stepped down from successful programs in recent years such as Tony Bennett. In particular, though, Larranaga pointed to one key moment after leading Miami to the Final Four that started to sour him on continuing to coach.

"After we went to the 2023 Final Four, eight players wanted to transfer or seek better NIL deals," Larranaga said while discussing how he got to this point. "They told me they loved it at Miami, but wanted to seek a better deal...."
