But whoever is scheduled to play in that event (and the others like it that are sure to pop up), will have another recruiting advantage. And how nice they also don't have to pay for travel, which frees up more money in their budget for whatever other luxuries they desire.

If NIL was what it was supposed to be when created, then it wouldn’t be a problem for me.
Example: We laughed and joked about Chuck Ingram being nicknamed Vornado, but can you seriously think of a better sponsor for Chloe Barber or for that matter all Shocker baseball and softball pitchers? They could be locked up with name and likeness simply because we have the world’s greatest fan company in our backyard. Collectives aren’t sustainable, but the original intended model could be.
However, the portal as it stands undermines any legitimacy of the NIL, no matter what it looks like.

I want to make sure I'm not misunderstood.
I want every student athlete to be able to monetize whatever they can. If I was still in my old industry, I would absolutely be approaching any number of student athletes with sponsorship opportunities. Might not be a lot of cash, but would absolutely be something of value to some of them.
But, of course, that's not what we're talking about.
I want kids to have the opportunity to get an education, better themselves and have a good life. You want money for SASO, as long as I'm on this Earth, I'll be helping. Need to upgrade facilities, uniforms, equipment....I'll be here. Have the kids over for a good meal? You bet.
You want me to donate money that is basically used to bribe children into coming here with no promise of commitment or accountability?
That's not for me. If it's for you, by all means, get after it.

For several reasons (not the least of which is WSU hasn't had football for 30+ seasons) I am a fan of OU football. I have been contacted too many times to count about donating to one of several collectives. It is LAUGHABLE to me. What's worse is the almost crazed like discussions among people I have always considered intelligent that just want to shovel money to these kids. Like I said, if it's your thing, have at it.
I understand the desire to win, the competitiveness. BELIEVE me, I understand. I don't understand why there is so much interest and desire...as if, at the end of the day, there will all of a sudden be more winners than losers.
There will always be one winner and one loser. And then at the very end, only one winner. I won't be there holding the bag. It's only my opinion, I'm not trying to influence or change anyone's mind. It's just my opinion only.

Now that payments to players by the university is legal. Why not do the, ever so common, would you like to roundup that concession total to go towards the NIL? Give basketball concession roundups to that team, baseballs to that team, so in and so forth.
If you had 5000 orders at the game round up, you would probably end with about $2500-5000 to distribute to the players after that game.
Nachos and a coke will be $9, would you like to round that up to $10 for the basketball NIL?
