Nice win. That last loss gave plenty of examples of how to lose. That and the humiliation probably played to the shocks advantage today. They appeared much more tuned into the game and most of the time played as a team. Rogers needs to work on that part.
Still see XB drive with one goal of getting his shot off. But he did pass outside a time or 2, so there is improvement there. Also KP didn't waste time pivoting 5 times to get his shots off (another positive). But the biggest take I got was a little fire in their pants today.

For a game with 2550 in the house, the fans really brought it. The team's effort had a lot to do with that.
Said it before, but it needs repeating, the spirit squad (cheer and dance) as well as the band have been absolutely spot on all year. They don't take a play off.
I don't think anyone here (or anywhere) thinks this team should be, say, 5-2 and fighting for a bye in the post season tourney. But just beat 2 of Temple (tied under 4), FAU (tied under 6) and ECU (total **** show) and we're 3-4. Really, just effort and caring for 40 minutes would have been enough for Temple and ECU. We got one today that we probably didn't deserve instead of a shot at FAU.
But as bad as we've been (and no doubt, it's been BAD) this is still a young team in terms of playing together. And in some ways, having an older team hurts in this kind of situation. Regardless, they are still searching for an identity, as a team. IF (and that's a big if) they can embrace an identity, then they can find their fair share of success in a league that is very open. Yes, Memphis and FAU are above others in talent, but we've already shown an ability to play with FAU and Memphis has shown that they can absolutely **** any bed. BUT, we have to find our identity and as HCPM has said, for the most part, it's going to be defense and that means not taking any plays off. We're just not good enough to overcome a ton of mistakes.
Today at least, we made enough free throws, kept the turnovers under control after the first 10 minutes, Cortes made a HUGE 3 when we had to have it and we utilized our size to give SMU fits. Not sure how many 2 footers or less we had, but it was many. That's good. That's good coaching and execution.
We needed (the kids and staff needed) this game to get off the schneid. Now that we're off, where do we go?

Gosh, I miss that raucous CKA crowd.
