    Yes, easily monogrammed...

Now getting any private sector participants interested in that area of town might be problematic without some kind of subsidy. But again that may or may not be the case depending on what the overall plan is. A private developer would, however, no doubt need some kind of agreement with the University regarding any student housing.

Apparently, there are REITS that specialize in student housing. One example is American Campus Communities, Inc. (ACC).

Find a student housing community at your college or university. University leaders: Partner with us to develop, finance or manage your student housing community.

Just not sure how attractive WSU would be to private real estate ventures considering our relatively low level of traditional students.

            Student Housing

I just perused through all 3 pages of this thread first wondering what it was doing in the basketball section. But nowhere did i see what Dr Bardo has proposed for the 1st new dorm. I heard this from a couple of people who attended meetings with Dr Bardo and one of them is a member of the administration. The location of the 1st dorm that is being studied, as i understand it from good sources, is the parking lot right south of Rhatigan Hall. Of course, to do that will then necessitate the need to build a parking lot somewhere else, most likely somewhere south of 17th St.

Parking garages are what is needed. Go to Johnson County CC and they have a couple large ones. Unless they are gonna pave over the last intramural field or the golf course, they only have room to go up. Or like was mentioned, clear out trash south of 17th.

I've heard that Bardo has mentioned looking into parking garages at some point. I'd forgotten about that until I saw your post. Had a friend that heard him make that comment awhile back. A couple of those and some of the already paved areas could be used for construction purposes.

However, if his first dorm is located next to the RSC, I'm not sure I see room there to put up multiple buildings. Perhaps that's a seperate idea after a first new dorm?

As I pointed out in the 'POGO Vision" you need to take the parking areas DOWN as in underground three levels or so and have green areas on top. You eliminate the need to move snow and ice on bad days and it would keep the cars cooler in hot days.

Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

There's a place under WSU Athletics for Men's Sports, the last post in which is visible right up front as having to do with whether we'd support the return of football, and you didn't know where to post it? How hard did you think, and what about WSU Men's Basketball reminds you of a sport that has now been defunct for over 25 years?

kai, can you move this where it belongs?
You'll have to forgive me. My life isn't Shockernet and I wasn't sure if the world would end if I posted it in the basketball forum. May God have mercy on me.

Don't know how it works at The Grove or in dorms, but that cost may also include cable, internet, a fair chunk of the heating/cooling, full size complete kitchen, and furnishings.

I did a quick scan of their website last night and what I recall is that they are furnished (including washer/dryer), most bills (utilities, internet, cable) are included, though there is a $30/resident cap on electricity (overages are billed).

Based on my son's dorm and meal plan fees this semester, on-campus housing will run around $6200 for the full year. If Grove's leases are 9 months, and you add on about $125/mo for food, the savings on a 3-br apartment is $100/mo. If the lease is longer, it's probably a wash, so you weigh having more privacy, room and better furnishings against being on campus and not having to prepare your own food.

It's quite a bit more expensive to take the garage down, than build it up. Almost double.
