I'm excited to find out who the new coach will be. Where will he come from? What areas will he be able to target and how well will he recruit?

Not that this is conclusive or won't change later but at this point Dana is listed simply as an Assistant Coach on the Illinois State web site.

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

FVV is still going to be a shocker, as a matter of fact he will be on campus in 11 days. I think he had a great connecton with coach ford, but at the end of the day FVV is a man of his word. We wish coach ford well, its just business....

The 2013 guys are a larger concern.

Bottom line. Coach Grant, Coach Dollar and Coach Ford are all good coaches, good recruiters and good people. Good, but not irreplacable. While I've been sorry to see them go, I'm glad we have coaches desired by others. By the way, all of these guys left for advancement and to be closer to home. Nothing wrong with that.

                Zero Doubt...

HCGM's cell has been ringing non-stop with highly qualified and very interested candidates since the announcement.

This is a job a LOT of people will be applying for and hoping for the call.

                Trust SR.
Above all, make the right call.

Don't forget Marty Gross in that discussion as well.

Except Gross didn't really leave for advancement as he really has no desire to be more than he is. And there's nothing wrong with that. He did leave to be closer to home though. The others listed above left for both reasons.

I do not envy Coach at all as he tries to figure out who the best fit is.

How many people do you think applied for a vacant position when randy smithson was the head coach?

First, I won't hate on Randy. The dude bleeds Shocker basketball. I would imagine that Randy had a lot of phone calls.....It's D-1 basketball and there are tons of people that would love to be on staff at any level of D-1 program.

I think that the quality of assistant that HCGM draws is probably better than previous coach's have drawn.

Listened to Coach's interview on Bruce and Bob. Coach insisted that he has always had all assistants give him their word that they will stay 2 full seasons. After that he will support any move they make. In his coaching career, only two assistants failed to follow through with the agreement. Chad Dollar did not live up to his word and neither did Dana. Very, very touchy subject. Coach very miffed. I suspect Dennis was correct in that from here foreward, his assistants will have either a non-compete or a buy-out, our both, but that is just speculation on my part.
