    • Our unstable situation is rectified by hiring a good coach and recruiter. Out unstable situation is because we didn't do that a couple of years ago.

Is there a better coach/recruiter that may be available for the position in the next month? If so, who?

I wouldn't let allegations and dropped charges keep me from reaching out to easily the best HC option available. Some people here want Turgeon back, but Beard is a better recruiter and coach and has something to prove. Win/Win/Win if you ask me.

      • Candidates aside, I still think donors and the potential loss/gain of funds is going to play a factor in any coaching change.

100% the problem w/ this pathetic world these days....last I checked neither Bauer nor Beard have not been proven guilty of any charges. So their lives should be ruined over unproven unfounded accusations?

            • This story has been and will continue to be ignored by all of our resident experts on basketball programs. I've heard about how bad Gregg Marshall is. Additionally, I've heard ad nauseum how bad Chris Beard is, how bad Greg Heiar is. Our experts know already the facts of all of these cases, no matter how much we don't really know.

In addition to our resident experts on these coaches, we've heard from national media such as Dana O'neill, Jeff *******, etc. on each of these incidents. It appears that even the top programs have bad eggs on the team.

However, a murder in Alabama happened over a month ago by a Alabama basketball player, and there has not been the national follow up on that incident. I may have missed it, but nothing from O'neil, Metcalf, or least of all *******. Not only did Alabama basketball player, Darius Miles murder a female, but a teammate allegedly furnished him with the gun. Nary a peep from here (well there has been some sarcastic comments, but no mention of crucifying either the murderer or the player who gave him the gun).

No mention either of the Alabama coaches, Nate Oates, comments downplaying the incident either. No crucifixion yet. LOL

These were Nate Oates comments regarding his star player who furnished the gun to Miles

Alabama coach Nate Oats told reporters on Tuesday that his star forward, Brandon Johnson, "hasn't been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case."

"Wrong spot at the wrong time," Oats said.

              • And we once kicked a guy off the team for showing some other player s a gun he had had in his car (I think it was Miachael Wiggins).

                • Alabama crowd chants lock him up at miller. What did he do? According to media, he provided a gun to a murderer.
Once again, trial by media shows it ugly head. No idea if he knew the intent of the murderer when he gave him the gun.
Hang him anyway, says the mob.

Twitter was completely tearing Alabama apart yesterday for this. Both Bama and Oats for his "wrong place wrong time" comments.

                      • I read about the Bama incident for the first time yesterday while on ESPN. I don't know enough about any of it to make a judgement.

From what I have seen, Miller, or his attorneys, claimed that Johnson seemed scared or something and that the gun was provided as a self defense measure. It's definitely possible that could be the case. I also believe there was a quote from the prosecutors that said they had nothing to charge Miller with, but I could be mistaken on who said that.

                        Nope, found it.

Miller was not charged with a crime, and Tuscaloosa Chief Deputy District Attorney Paula Whitley told AL.com on Tuesday that "there's nothing we could charge [Miller] with."
I'm a little confused on some of the facts as presented, but it sounds like they say Miller never touched the gun and was already on his way to pick up Miles when he received the text about bringing him his gun. Apparently it was already in the car for some reason?

There's apparently also video evidence that shows Miller never did anything to participate in the incident and fled the scene as soon as he heard gunshots. I believe his windshield was struck.

Based on this context, I actually understand what Oats was trying to say when he said "wrong place, wrong time".

As presented by the police/DA, Miller was more or less an innocent bystander who happened to be there when the **** hit the fan.

A day after police testified he brought a now-former teammate the handgun used to kill a woman in January, Brandon Miller scored a career-high 41 points -- including a game-winning layup in overtime -- as the Crimson Tide outlasted South Carolina.

Yea, the truth is somewhere in the middle there. It was a dumb move to go towards a fight while bringing a gun (whether it was his or not and whether he touched it or not) but that is just a dumb move not necessarily an illegal move. If he's not a suspect and isn't being charged, I don't really see how/why the School or as some twitter folks have suggested, the NCAA would step in.

                          • I considered posting this yesterday, but I didn’t know enough to offer an opinion. I’m not a big fan of Parrish, but he’s always been pretty fair about covering the Shockers. The media loves to jump on a story and claim they have all the facts/answers, when the majority of the time, they don’t…

It certainly sounds like Johnson knew the gun was in the car, but it is early. He may not have broken a law, but this certainly smells like there's some "smoke" around the issue, and maybe rules broken (is it perhaps a team rule that a player shouldn't have a gun in his car. that later murders someone?) But no, now people come to a media darling (Oates), and his defense. Johnson scored 41 points in an OT win last night against Mississippi State. Some on here have been consistent about warning others to be careful to criticize (Beard) until we have all the facts, and others have been willing to throw Beard and other coaches under the bus without all the facts.
