I've had my fair share of ankle injuries over my years of playing basketball. I remember my doctor once told me that if I was your average, everyday person he'd essentially recommend staying off of it as much as possible for I want to say six weeks, but it might have been longer, to get back to fully healthy. He followed that up with, no practice for three days and try to stay off of it as much as you can during that time, and then just make sure it's taped up/braced and ease into thing. He told me it wouldn't get to 100% until after the season but it should be good enough to play on, with support. Doc had known me my entire life and knew we were a family of athletes, and his own son played college baseball. He wasn't being an overly cautious family doctor in that moment, which my coach accused him of when I couldn't practice for a couple of days. I always knew that coach never gave a **** about any of us.

Point is, it does take a while to heal. It's possible that my injury in this instance was worse than what Porter had. I know we went into the doc because it was the worst pain I'd experienced with an ankle injury and we wanted to make sure it wasn't broken or had more than your typical damage. But regardless, an ankle injury takes a lot of time. There's a lot of pressure on that part of the body even for your average person going about their day. Put it on an athlete that is stressing that joint, those ligaments, to a higher degree and it's going to take even longer.

I just wish IB wouldn't so blatantly exaggerate something like this. He could say he will 100% be playing or he's participating in 100% of practice or something along those lines. But saying he is 100% is insanely false. I bet we'll see Porter limping/favoring that ankle more than once during the game, even if it is taped up beyond belief.

One thing that surprised me during the ECU game is it didn't appear that Porter had any sort of brace or tape. Its possible it was all inside the shoe .. but with him wearing low tops ... Its hard to imagine any taping that low would have been helpful.

I wondered the same thing as it wasn't obviously taped up or anything, at least from what I saw on TV. Don't get me wrong, I hated playing with a taped up ankle as it's restrictive, but that's kind of the point.

I find it hard to believe that he didn't have some sort of support, even if it wasn't obvious. I suppose CP would get the last say, but I can't imagine Todd not pushing to get his ankle wrapped.

IB tends to use a lot of hyperbole. “I tell the guys, we have the best fans in America.” “Koch arena will be sold out every night.” Yes, he’s said this and more. I’m sure it’s a real downer for the team to come out of the tunnel thinking the arena will be rockin’ and the utter disappointment in seeing 4-5000 max in the seats… it has to be deflating to continue to hear your coach make outlandish comments. Honestly, that’s part of the problem. Marshall or even Turgeon would rip the fans when necessary.
IB’s communication skills are next to nothing. It’s simply a fact and anyone that doesn’t see it is blind or has their head in the sand. Excellent communication skills should be a prerequisite of being a head coach.

I will give him a pass on his comments about RCIV; he often said “Ricky thinks he’s the best player on the team.” Duh!
              Thank you captain obvious.

This was before I came to WSU or was even following the program closely, but it seems like I remember hearing stories of a game where fans left early during Mark's first season and Mark was pissed about it in the postgame presser. The next game, fans stayed until the end (maybe an OT game even). After the game, which the Shockers lost, Mark went to the PA mic, thanked the fans and said something like "We WILL turn this around."

Can anyone confirm that or did I just make that up in my head?

Pretty much 'word for word'... I remember it well and appreciated him chewing our asses.

It was freaking awesome when he addressed the crowd! Short and sweet. Right to the point. He scored many points that day.

I will say, it wasn't as good as Billy Tubbs addressing the crowd, but still good stuff.

If there was a corner to turn for Mark, it was a hard 90 right then and there. Glorious moment. All you want is someone to fight for you.

Will go to my grave knowing that Mark barking at his team getting PASTED at home vs SIU was one of my favorite CKA moments ever.

That game, even in loss, might have taken my mom from a casual fan who might attend games here and there to "OMG, THIS IS AMAZING."

Later in that game, when WSU was finishing a ridiculous 35-6 run (something like that) that straddled halftime, the Shocks went back to back to back 3s to take the lead with just more than 16 left in the game. Higgy looked at Painter and shrugged his shoulders as if to say "you want a TO Matt?" (because there's NO WAY you were hearing a whistle at that moment) and Painter declined and Higgy was like okay, your funeral. Concrete dust was raining from the rafters at that moment.

Those MFers on that Saluki team were so tough....how they weathered that and won is still a mystery.
