Here's the place, and I'll start things off with a dose of skepticism. I have no inside info; I never do. (Personally, I think that adds to my credibility, if only because alleged inside info or rumors from "sources" so often prove bogus.) I'll just note that, according to the MaxPreps site for Carl's high school, Bleckley County HS in Cochran GA, he was a senior in 2008-9. If that's true, then there's no basis for concern about his eligibility clock running out, because next season is just the fourth year since then, and you get five years to use up four seasons of eligibility. So the speculators need to find a new worry.
I guess my "reliable" source did know what they were talking about unlike your source MaxPreps (an internet site).

The reason this fine forum is so special is because of inside info that people are willing to share. Please stop trying to fight it.

I'm seriously going to cry like a 2 year old if the unthinkable happens.

None of the people with inside info have ever said Carl will not be playing next year. Having said that, it is now in the hands of the NCAA.

I tried Bleckley County HS and struck out, which was what led me to MaxPreps. They had a 6-8, 215 pound Carl Hall (about the right size)as a 2009 senior at BCHS. I do see what you're apparently referring to, though: a 2007 all-state listing with 6-6 senior Carl Hall, who would have needed to do some growing, from BCHS on the 2A first team. (By the way, they also list the 2007 4A player of the year, from Stone Mountain, as our old buddy Andrew Goudelock.)

So maybe MaxPreps has it wrong, in which case my premise doesn't hold up, as Hall would have completed five years since high school. (Edit: apparently that is the case -- turns out that MaxPreps was the Internet rumor monger.) But if Nate Funk could get to play and test an injury, then get a redshirt, one would hope that a potentially life-threatening heart condition would justify a waiver.

Hey, go ahead and do whatever you want, Sub -- you'd probably have done that even without my permission. I'm not reluctant to acknowledge being wrong this time around, or to tip my hat to what turned out to be solid inside info from 757. You da man, Mr. Airliner.

But I've seen enough Internet rumors and alleged inside info prove unfounded that I'm going to remain a skeptic anyway, notwithstanding that this one proved out. I'll just be slower to question 757 next time. And meanwhile, we can all hope that the bitter VCU fan doesn't work for the NCAA.

Still crying down there in Louisiana? Hopefully the news travels better down there the next time unconfirmed reports of people dying are blurted out without any checking.

This is going to be the problem:

Torgerson said Hall received a medical hardship for the 2007-08 season, allowing him to play two seasons at a junior college. At issue is the 2008-09 season, which WSU maintains Hall also lost because of the heart condition and is therefore deserving of a second medical hardship season. Hall played three seasons in five years, so he needs the waiver to continue his college playing career.
Hall's medical issues affected his 07-08 season. There is hardly any disputing that.

The issue will be the 08-09 season, however. The NCAA might contend that Hall was able to play that year, but just didn't. WSU is trying to say that Hall's health issues were still affecting him then. WSU will probably need to dig up a significant development in Hall's treatment between the 08-09 and 09-10 seasons that took Hall from "cannot play due to health issues" to "can play."
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

                    Carl Hall

Paul Suellentrop covers Hall's situation thoroughly in an article on the front of the Eagle Sports page today.

My only thing was there were three or four of us who had heard the same thing about Hall from different, reliable sources. And the fact that I heard about it about a month before it was brought up here only solidified that it was accurate. I don't have a problem questioning a "rumor" brought up by someone with no track record in 757. I don't use my sources for info on here a lot. I keep most of it to myself, depending on what it is. So if you don't trust me, that's fine. However, @Dowtown Shocker Brown has had a very good record when it comes to these things, and he doesn't go around spouting off about rumors every day. He'd even mentioned that Hall had played, and sat out because of the heart condition and that's what the issue was. Being a little skeptical is one thing, but it seemed as if you were down right refusing to give it any thought even though multiple posters, and at least one with a good reputation on these things, had confirmed that it is an issue. And you're not the only one who did so.

But lets not get ahead of our selves. We have a very good chance at getting this approved. The NCAA preaches the overall health of the students (who HAPPEN to be athletes) is its primary goal. Not just their academic health. So he had to sit out a year due to the heart thing. He wasnt transferring schools, or getting suspended, or anything like that.

Its my opinion that this will get approved.

Will be interesting. A lot of grey area needs to be cleared up. Tough when dealing with multiple schools. Everyone needs to cooperate.

I think the medical documentation and prognosis from his Docs back then will be the key to getting this approved.
