Ok. I thought maybe my memory had gone. Peterson hasn't been overly impressive and I was getting their careers confused. It'd be a huge upgrade for Peterson
It seems like a good move to me. I'm not sure what Jank is making now, but by all accounts this contract with SMU is a massive payraise, even at $1.1M.
Redbird fans say this would triple his salary, so Jank must be making around $350,000+. I also saw they probably couldn't afford to pay him $500,000. We really need to be in a league where teams can afford to be in the game. I think he would be smart running to the money as I sure he doesn't want to be at Illinois State forever. If next year doesn't turn out as expected for the Redbirds, who knows if anybody would ever want him. Even if they do great, I'm not for sure he would get a much better job. Ok, I admit I'm no fan of that chicken.

I'm not a fan of anyone associated with Brown.
350k is crazy, though. They're not even in the same ballpark as us in commitment to their basketball program. Which is fine ... They're still a good team. But I don't understand how any Valley team can expect to compete in the coaching market when they pay that far below the market average. Any team with 500k as their salary cap is a transitional job at best. Any success you get can't be maintained ... You're always going to be in rebuilding mode. FCS football is killing a lot of Valley teams.

If you aren't going to pay even close to what the going rate is for a winning coach you are just going to be a stepping stone job. I think the only two MVC team that are willing to pony up the money at this point are Creighton and WSU. Les and Lowery were at ~$750k but both have been fired and their replacements are making a great deal less. I think Hinson is only getting $250k and has $225K to spend on his staff. Wonder if his recruiting budget is a Yugo and a gas credit card with a $500 dollar limit?
I'm surprised that Jacobson is still at UNI. Last I heard they weren't paying him jack, but he seems to love where he is.

You have it backwards on the Bradley coaching situation. Geno Ford is reportedly making around $750k. Les was making less ($400-450k). Bradley had to pay a good amount to get Ford from his $400k gig at Kent State.
I've seen a few reports that Brown's got his eyes on the Portland GM job as well and that's holding things up. But I've also seen quotes from Brown that seem to indicate he really wants to coach SMU.
