Norfolk State's Kyle O'Quinn was tournament MVP. Garret was just listed first (grouped by team) on the all-tournament list.

This season Stutz played 12 games vs. D1 competition out-of-conference. He played 19 games against MVC opponents. In 12 of those games he scored 15 or more. Two (17%) in OOC and 10 (53%) in MVC games.

He had 11 double-doubles, two (17%) against OOC, nine (47%) against MVC opponents.

I'm just not seeing the data, besides Portsmouth, that shows Garrett having better production outside the MVC.

From observations it seemed clear to me that Garrett's production depended on two factors: 1. A favorable opponent, and 2. Not picking up silly fouls. Whether the refs in Portsmouth let them get away with more (and from those recaps it sounds like you had to mug someone to get a foul call in the early games), it seems Stutz had both factors in his favor.

I also think coaching plays into it. Marshall, playing to win, would sometimes have to sit Garrett due to match-up issues. At the PIT, the goal is to get everyone equal exposure.

Whatever the reasons, I'm glad he made a great showing. I hope the evaluator is correct and that Garrett could make an NBA roster someday.

Royal, don't spoil the party. We like to complain about "Valley" officials...even though they are the same officials who ref for other conferences including the Big 12....
