    Sweet Justice for Garrett!

Maybe some professional success for Stutz -- especially if he makes it on an NBA roster -- will also help Marshall and his staff as they try to recruit genuine centers in the future.

So glad to see Stutz show so good. Couldn't happen to a nicer person.

Recruiting will blossom even more in the future once the names of our former Shockers start appearing on NBA team rosters.

Sure would be nice to see Stutz be the first to restart the trend.

Couldn't be happening to a better guy who really deserves a good shot at the big time! It's great to see he's taking advantage of his opportunity.

Mr. Stutz will make money somewhere playing the game he loves. What a team player he is. I wish him the very best.

Amazing what can happen when you break free from the shackles of the Missouri Valley.

Impressive. He really is showing how much the poor MVC officiating hampered him here.

I always thought he played weak for his size, but maybe I didn't give enough credit to the MVC for that.

Of course, if he was playing like this against VCU in the NCAA tournament, we'd have had a really nice run.

Garrett was only 2 wins away from playing the team he did not select over us. Kentucky. However, without GS, we would not have even made the Dance. Now that we tasted this after waiting about 6 years, we must become regulars in our quest to Dance with the Stars in March. Actually, I think Garrett will keep improving and get a nice offer to make money someplace. We will follow his career because that is one of the things we do.

I'm no NBA GM, but I would think that someone would have seen enough out of Garrett during this tournament and the non-valley games this year to sign him as a free agent and stick him on an NBDL team to develop. I think he could follow the same path as Anthony Tolliver who did this and is now a contributor for the T-Wolves.

This season Stutz played 12 games vs. D1 competition out-of-conference. He played 19 games against MVC opponents. In 12 of those games he scored 15 or more. Two (17%) in OOC and 10 (53%) in MVC games.

He had 11 double-doubles, two (17%) against OOC, nine (47%) against MVC opponents.

I'm just not seeing the data, besides Portsmouth, that shows Garrett having better production outside the MVC.

From observations it seemed clear to me that Garrett's production depended on two factors: 1. A favorable opponent, and 2. Not picking up silly fouls. Whether the refs in Portsmouth let them get away with more (and from those recaps it sounds like you had to mug someone to get a foul call in the early games), it seems Stutz had both factors in his favor.

I also think coaching plays into it. Marshall, playing to win, would sometimes have to sit Garrett due to match-up issues. At the PIT, the goal is to get everyone equal exposure.

Whatever the reasons, I'm glad he made a great showing. I hope the evaluator is correct and that Garrett could make an NBA roster someday.

Your data may have some holes. Small OC sample size in the second half of the season with the question being, did he improve as the season went on and how many of his last half season poor games included foul trouble (no foul trouble at Portsmouth). The competition at Portsmouth was obviously pretty good for college age players that are potential pro players.

Garrett made the Portsmouth all-tournament team.
