We simply do not have 4M to throw at the problem right now, unless an unknown donor or donors are willing to foot the bill at this instant. I'm guessing he gets to finish this season before being shown the door.

How much money do you think the athletic dept is losing right now because of poor performance? Specifically separating poor performance from coaching contracts.

Don't know for sure, but it's probably not 4M worth. Especially when if you fire him right now, I doubt you're going to see much impact with the product on the floor or the amount of tickets purchased. That will come with the excitement of a new hire that's been through an actual coaching search and ends up the leader of the pack according to Saal.

It sucks, but that's where DB has put us and what KS is stuck dealing with until he can get things righted.

The assumption is that a new coach would be brought in as interim and nothing from this train wreck promoted, as that is what got us into this mess.

Why would anyone assume that? How often does someone get brought in from the outside to be a place holder? If IB goes now, odds are Waterman is leading the team the rest of the year before an actual move gets made. If we can't afford the 4M, how are we going to pay someone not already on the payroll to finish the year?

How on earth would you even convince someone to come in and clean up this situation without giving them a multiyear contract to be the next coach? I don't see how you bring someone in from the outside to be just an interim head coach.

I can understand why people here are so bummed after the loss to Alcorn State.... just talked to someone in Wichita who cancelled his season tickets. It may be premature to fire the head coach at this point but post holidays, barring some dramatic turnaround, I think it would be wise for the new AD to start an informal coaching search.

It may be premature to fire the head coach at this point but post holidays, barring some dramatic turnaround, I think it would be wise for the new AD to start an informal coaching search.

I wouldn't be surprised if an informal search has already begun, or will commence shortly. Still can't really take any action in regards to a new HC until after the season when you can actually start talking to them. But I trust he'll have his short list narrowed down pretty low by March with some good ideas as to where we end up.

Unless of course, the money is still a concern and nobody has stepped up to help pay IB off, or IB doesn't just resign to try and salvage his career a bit and save face. He'll get an assistants job somewhere after he gets terminated. He's proven himself to be a solid recruiter and a good piece to have on the bench. He's just not head guy material, unless he wants to go to a much smaller school and try again.

Yea .. unless you have a coach that isn't coaching right now, you aren't going to be able to announce a new coach or even potentially talk to a coach that is currently coaching another team. That's most likely where our new coach will come from.

Remember, nobody talks directly to one another. It's all between go betweens. I'd bet any amount of money that a list of "gauged interest" is being assembled, if it doesn't already exist.

And I don't care who the coach is where. You're going to have some kind of list at the ready.

Do that and Gregg will go out into the country, find a hedge pole that a farmer used for a fence post, dig it up and inform WSU exactly where they can insert it in a bodily orifice with suggestions of how deeply it should be inserted.
