It may be a very tough non-con schedule. How many buy games do we lose? My bet is at least 1 and possibly more.

I guess it's all relative. We've had tougher/better non-con schedules, but we had better teams. Maybe this is the toughest non-con schedule because we suck and he knows it?

I'm saying a real fan gets excited because it's basketball season. Anyone can jump ship anytime they want, those aren't real fans.

While I am not convinced the team will be very good, I am excited to see which players beyond Porter and Pohto step up. There are basically 10 new scholarship players and three vacant starting spots (SG, SF, PF) so you have to figure a few new players will step up and make names for themselves.

I think most fans on here are looking forward to a new season of Shocker basketball and are excited for that. But, I think there are some (myself included) who are skeptical and not anticipating great results. I think we can agree that it will be great to have Shocker basketball back in full swing.

Excited for another 16-14 season? Meh.

Ill get excited when all the cache we built up the last decade doesn’t get used up in 2 years and we have to basically start all over from scratch.

That doesn't sound very exciting at all. But I hear ya on that. I'm simply hoping to not be embarrassed and perhaps maybe have a "chance" at the end of the year for something to be excited about.

Yep. I’ve said same.

Let’s use 32 games as an example (30 regular season games plus 2 in conference tournament…I know, we couldn’t get 2 in Fort Worth last year…just work with me here).

20-12 or better would set up for NIT or better. That’s progress.

16-16 or worse: the wheels have come off. Cut bait and move on.

17-15 / 18-14 / 19-13. What do you do? That’s not quite fireable, but that’s not awe-inspiring either. That’s just purgatory.

I am anxious for the season to start but feel I could be setting myself up for depression based on team performance.
I held season tickets from the late 70's untill 2000 (when I moved to Austin). The feel this year is similar to that of the late 80's and 90's. Contrast that to the GM era and you may understand the lack of excitement. Anxious, yes. Hopeful, yes. Confident, not one little bit.

The apathy with me is about 20% with the program and 80% with college basketball. I could get excited about our team a lot more if cheaters were held accountable, the NIL was reigned in to a sane level, and players weren’t making 3-4 different stops at various places through their careers.

You make a good point. I am resigned to the fact that the rich schools will become the only great 8 teams in the very near future. I'm hoping for a split between the power 5 and all other schools return to student athletes of old in a new association. Maybe make kids sign a commitment in order to get a scholarship.
In all honesty, high school ball may hold my interest more than college in the near future.

The non-con is bad enough that this team might finish above .500. I'm still not certain right now that they accomplish that.
