    3) Fred VanVleet – Wichita State Shockers
    VanVleet is coming off of a sophomore season where he averaged 11.6 points and 5.4 assists per game for a Wichita State Shockers team that went undefeated in the regular season. While his most important job will continue to be to feed Ron Baker the ball this year, VanVleet will have the opportunity to showcase his offensive abilities a bit more as the team will rely upon him to pick up some of scoring load.

          Does stand out, doesn't it? :smug:

          This write-up offers more:

          Duke's Jahlil Okafor has become the third freshman in five years to be named to The Associated Press' preseason All-American team.

            • Why the .... Is there such little talk about this? This should be the real story on this board right now. Seriously, who cares about some player leaving some other school because he wasn't getting enough playing time? We've got an all American pg who could start for any team in the country. We've got the reigning coach of the year in every category, and arguably the best lock down defender in the nation. Yet some of you feel the need to place a player who didn't start for some other team on a platform.

              //End Rant

              Well deserved recognition for Fred. Hopefully he can continue the outstanding play that has gotten him this far. If not, we all no it won't be for a lack of effort. Keep grinding...

                Too bad by tomorrow, the other thread will exceed this one :sour:

                  i was wondering about that too. no love for fvv, the best point guard in america? fvv is a really great, and i don't use that term often, point guard. his poise is obvious.. his toughness can't be measured. he can and will score more this year.. easily. hell, he could have scored more points last year, if the team had needed it. seriously, does marshall need to say anything when fvv is on the floor?

                        • I think this honor probably deserves its own thread. It would get a ton more looks.

                          That being said, Fred is DA MAN! He will torment and torture the MVC all year long and will continue to improve on his stellar last season. I hope all of the younger guards take all the tips offered because they are learning from one of the best I have seen in quite a while.

                          • Is 3G sensing a potential early departure? Fred is not the prototype NBA athlete but he's been breaking down barriers his entire life.

                            • Great honor for Fred and well-deserved. But what excites me even more is that during the Shocker media day Fred very matter-of-factly stated that he is improved as a player since last year (as well as Ron and Tekele). I also like how 3G and perhaps Fred have bought into the line that they still see themselves as hunters and they have a target on every team they play.

                              Looking forward to seeing Fred's banner hanging from the rafters in Koch Arena. Fred Van Vleet, LCW. That's a PhD. Doctor of Leadership, Competing and Winning.
