That was GOOD! Probably one of the best commencement addresses there was this year. The reason I say that is that the students were able to relate to Fred a lot better than if they had heard the same words from - oh, say - the mayor.

Well written and composed. Delivered with surprising ease and polish for someone who probably has limited public speaking experience.

Fred looked at the people he was talking to. He only had to glance at his notes occasionally, and he did that withot breaking the flow of his words. That's really tough for people who haven't done that a lot.

        • I wonder how many sophomores in college are requested to speak at their high school's commencment?
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

And it was not as if he was reading directly from a prepared script. Everything he said to the graduating class was directly from the heart.

                  • Gonna be a lot of people wanting him to be the voice of college basketball next year. Wanting him to be seen as an example of what a college basketball player can be. I wouldn't be surprised to hear sound bites from that speech all season long - and possibly in games that don't include WSU.

That might be an interesting video to provide to prents of recruits.

                      • Fred, Malcolm, Joe, Clevin, Matt... we been blessed with outstanding PG play for quite a while.

We know that KU tried to get in on Fred late.

Well this is what it sounds like when you have to make excuses for your PGs:

"Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should accomplish with your ability."

                        • BS makes no sense in that video saying he loves having whatever 3 guys bring up the ball throughout the game until the last 5 minutes and at that point he prefers a PG???

                          • Is shaking his head from side-to-side during his entire answer any indication as to the truthfulness of the comments?

                            • What was that comment from Marshall. Something like "Recruiting is like shaving. Miss a day and you look like a bum".
