Shocker supporters and Men’s Basketball Head Coach Gregg Marshall are planning the 6th Annual Gregg Marshall Golf Classic and Auction.

This year’s event will tip off with the Dinner and Auction sponsored by Mahaney Roofing on Saturday, May 5 at 6 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.

Tickets for the Dinner and Auction cost $50 each, or $150 for VIP tickets, which include admission to the After Party with Coach Marshall.

The Gregg Marshall Golf Classic, sponsored by Equity Bank, is slated for Monday, May 7 at the Wichita Country Club.

All proceeds from both events go directly to support the Wichita State Men’s Basketball program.

That's unfortunate. I was hoping he had a stronger commitment to WSU. It appears his commitment is to his criteria for leaving. Perhaps the only difference between Turgeon and Marshall is that Marshall is more honest and drives a harder bargain. Considering my allegiance to WSU, it's going to take a lot more than turning down a couple BCS whipping boys to demand respect from me.

He's not from Kansas. He didn't go to WSU. He didn't grow up cheering for the Shockers. You're really surprised a coach isn't as loyal to a program as fans are? If you want unquestionable loyalty, hire Braeuer or another WSU alumni.

WSU has a lot of strengths. It also has negatives. WSU flat out can't match the highest contracts that the biggest schools can offer. It's not a top 10 program, not a contender for the NCAA tournament championship every year. For a coach to turn down more money, in more prolific conferences, and teams that have a better shot at a national title for a school he didn't have any connection to until five years ago? I think that's pretty impressive, and means he thinks a lot of Wichita and WSU.

There are no guarantees with anyone. Actually, considering that Braeuer would have Turgeon advising him, he might jump at the chance for a bigger conference school as well, especially one in Texas since he is from there. People go back home to be near family, not to be back near the school they went to.

Even when you have a "major" program like KU, there is always the chance your coach will decide to try his hand in the NBA.
