I've never heard them say "hit him," though I don't doubt that has been said. I do doubt that a coach wants a player to face away from the basket and shove a player (flopping or not) not already in contact with the rebounder. Coach McD publically stated that Greg E acted inappropriately, whether he privately agrees or not, he knows that it was AGAINST THE RULES.
I have seen players put two hands on the body of an opponent and shove them. I have seen it called a foul. I have seen it missed. In each case, the foul was committed against a player in which boxing out with the body had failed and the push was made when ALREADY IN CONTACT WITH THE OPPONENT. I have NEVER seen a player shoved in open court where the fan said that the play was ACCEPTABLE as has been said on here.
Now I suppose SubGod will retort, "I never said it was acceptable," as will DJA. Both of you stated that it happens all the time and is not called. That is saying that the play is okay.
What about, "Is it dirty?" Yes! The play itself was dirty. When you shove a player that is running, that is as dirty as tripping, whether the player was flopping or not, you can't do that. It is a flagrant or intentional or technical or whatever. It is beyond positioning for an advantage and is done SPECIFICALLY to take a player out of the play. If you push, trip, or otherwise take down a player intentionally, you have committed a dirty play.
I never said it wasn't a foul and even said that if it was called a foul, I would have had no argument. What I took issue with is twofold: (1) that pushing with two hands is not allowed and/or is always a foul (somebody actually said that and somebody else went so far as to say it should even be a technical); and (2) that it was flagrant. Let's be honest here - Zeller is well over 220lbs and 7'0" tall. The push here would not knock a guy that size over. It would move him and maybe cause him to get knocked off balance a bit, but if you don't think this was a flop, than just say that because then there is no way to have discourse and we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Likewise, if you (or others) are advocating a rule change, then that is completely different discussion. Obviously, any rule change is not going to be enforced retroactively.
I still think that the refs knew that Zeller flops a lot and therefore didn't give him any breaks when he did flop during the game. In fact, on at least one occasion when he flopped in the paint, they called it a block. I concede that at first glance it looks violent. But when viewed again, and when taking Zeller's past into account, I think it is pretty obvious that Zeller flopped here. I'll even concede that it was pretty smart to give it a shot because Zeller got owned by GE in the game (if only we had your guards, we might have had a chance....).
The only reason UNC fans are even making a big deal about this is because they had a player get hurt on a play that even Roy Williams admits wasn't dirty. If Marshall doesn't get hurt, nobody even talks about any of this stuff.

Greg "Chewie" McDermott thought it was a dirty and unnacceptable play...nuff said."I discovered surfing, which I absolutely fell in love with. That feels good and kind of keeps your body aligned, so does the salt water." - Anthony Kiedis

Thanks for the semantical clarification. He didn't have to say anything. That would have been the PC game."I discovered surfing, which I absolutely fell in love with. That feels good and kind of keeps your body aligned, so does the salt water." - Anthony Kiedis

The word in question was never censored under previous management. Far worse words are used on here. Nobody is complaining about a filter being in use. Just that this one particular word seems to have become taboo.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

@DoubleJayAlum:,
I will concede that there may have been some flopping there. In my mind, the fact that he probably flopped does not change the nature of the foul. A push (or elbow stiff arm) on a player in motion is akin to an attempted trip, IMO. The play was "excesive" because the player was running and not already in contact with the player. I'm not opposed to hard fouls, however, the non-intentional hard foul, IMO would have been for GE to pivot towards the goal and lay his hip into Zeller. Zeller probably still would have fallen down. The contact would have been harder, more effective, and legal (as in not even a foul). When you extend your arms and shove a player that has yet to attempt to establish position, then you have, IMO, committed an "excesive" foul.
This is excessive, IMO, 100% because there was arm contact FIRST with that contact being an intended push. Pushing with two hands is a foul, not a technical/flagrant. Pushing a player that is running IS excesive.Livin the dream

It is located in the posting guidelines thread. So, yes, I'm completely changing the culture of this forum, by just making people follow the rules already put in place, long before I was here. It is in the rules. I'm not discussing it anymore. As Royal says, go dust off a dictionary and find a better word.
Just where did I say I didn't support Royal (and ShockBand) and his stance and rules on this issue. The problem is the filter or the person running the filter. I'll state again, I've seen much more profanity under the current watch than before. To my old memory, the word in issue here and now was never an issue there and then. If your filter works funky and you can't do anything about, it say so. If you can control the filter and elect to be more of a censor than previous admins, just say so. Either is fine by me as I have been upset at some of the word selection used by posters on this new platform, but, again, the word at issue isn't one of them.

I removed all of the words from the filter except your typical racial slurs and f bombs. Your issues have been heard, they have been resolved.
