  • Marshall's comments

What does everyone think about Marshall's honest and recurring comments about the present team's lack of athleticism/physicality/talent? On the one hand, comments like "we have little margin of error" could definitely motivate a team to work harder. On the other hand, it doesn't seem like it's too difficult to see how comments like this could lead to a "we aren't that good" mentality, a lack of confidence, and a number of 28% shooting nights.

it's great. he's honest. he's not giving us "We're just in a funk. That'll clear by the next game!" that type of crap isn't in Coach's vocabulary.

I think its great. If the team doesn't want to hear that stuff, they shouldn't play so poorly.

I think he's being honest to the "fans" of the program.

Players like PJ and Matt should understand and identify with it. Neither has the natural/physical attributes for a D-1 player at their respective positions.

Having said that, they know what hard work and team work can do in over-achieving on your potential.....

The players will either get it or not... Marshall will recruit the players who will we know that from his past performance... We're in a transition... we just have to endure...

I guess the question I asked wasn't really framed correctly, now that I think about it. I was thinking in terms of why many of the shocks seem to play with little confidence, and was wondering if the coach's perception of them played a role. I guess that true confidence comes more with success than it does with being told how good you are anyway.

P.J. is a very good athlete.

Gal is a very good athlete.

Aaron Ellis is a very good athlete.

Ramon Clemente is a very good athlete.

Arbry Butler is a very good athlete.

Mantas Griskenas is a very good athlete.

J.T. Durley is a very good athlete.

Phil Thomasson is a very good athlete.

              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.J. and Phil proved their mettle against top-flight recruits from BCS programs.

Butler, Durley and Ellis were fairly heavily recruited.

Mekel turned down offers from Big East schools to come to WSU.

              Griskenas was a FIRST-TEAM all-american in Juco.

Maybe these aren't HCGM's type of players but they were surely recruited by other coaches and expected to perform well. This "system" of Gregg's must be very rigid in regards to players who will succeed in it. Aaron Ellis is supposed to be one of those players.

It doesn't matter how good of an athlete they are or how heavily recruited they were if they can't make a jump shot.

He said it at the beginning of the year, and many of us apparently didn't take him at his word. But I don't think that we don't have athletes. I think we do. The problem is that the really good athletes are very young.

Tonight, we just didn't have our floor general on the court. We made stupid mistakes that led to the landslide crumbling down.

                  S--- happens.

I didn't get a chance to listen to the post game but did he actually say he's lost the team? Not that I'm surprised or concerned just trying to clarify what was said.
