  • I really wanted to stay out of this but now I am starting to put some things together. Self and Daily did the game at CU with the non-whistle whistle that cost us a foul.

Not sure which one was responsible for that but that whole thing was screwed up. Then Gregg sees them back in the semis and I'm not sure they should have even been working the tournament, and they sure shouldn't have been assigned to WSU at that point, imho. I bet Higgins was pissed to see those 2 and I'm being dead serious.

Now, I have a question and a theory, somebody let me know if I'm off base. I saw the replay of the side OOB that John called. He was in the play, and I am wondering if, given a 50/50 call (like it or not it was a tough call) he chose to give the ball back to ISU based on that he might have impeded the ability of Moore (I think) of recovering, in essence, managing the call. Thoughts?

I see that kind of ticky-tac officiating in college basketball all too often.
Everyone keeps saying that WSU lost because they shot poorly. If you read the stats, ISUR shot more poorly than WSU and still won so that's not the total picture. ISUR won because they shot great from the line and oh they shot more from the line than WSU even though, ISU was trying to bate Garrett and foul him to take him out of the game. He ended up sitting most of the game at least more than Carmichael.

      • Don Daily (I think) is the guy that bungled the Mizzou KU game too. Daily also did the Alabama game in PR. I have little doubt Gregg will be making a point that he doesn't want to see Daily or Self anytime in the near future.

And turning back to the ISU game, giving Garrett 2 fouls (the push and then the T) is THEIR fault for not cleaning up the 3-5 fouls against Garrett in the minute prior to that exchange. They let it get out of hand, then they get the "2nd guy" not just once, but compound it with the T. Poor game management imho. Game deciding poor game management.

I still will defer to @ShockRef: because he's got a lot better handle on it than I, but I see where Coach is going on this, and I know why guys were frustrated.

        • Should be a very interesting Coach's radio show tonight.

          • Basketball is a dynamic game and not just one thing causes a loss. With that said, part of the officials' job is to call a fair game and allow the winner of the game to win on the merits of their own play. They call a good game when you forget they were there. Sure, we didn't play our best game, but teams are put in almost impossible situations when they have to overcome not only their own lousy play but a supremely lousy job by the officials. A few missed or bad calls here and there happens--even the refs are human and that's excusable--but what we witnessed Saturday was an epic fail.

That's all I'll say about that, because, in the end we dropped only two spots in the polls, we're still going to the Dance, we still have a strong case for a protected seed, and this is still a team that can play with any other in the country. As HCGM said, "sleep well tonight."
"It's amazing to watch Ron slide into that open area, Fred will find him and it's straight cash homie."--HCGM

            • Found this joke of a provision in the by laws:
8.3.5 Changes to Officials List. Additions or deletions from the officials lists are made only by the Commissioner or his designee. In revising these lists and in making game assignments, the Commissioner shall give due consideration to the opinions and ratings of the coaches.

As players and coaches went to the locker room at half, it appeared that Jake was really catching it from some of the players and coach. I must have missed something, anyone know why?
Bump since it got kind of lost

I hope not, that would be a worse outcome than simply not seeing that it bounced off ISUb's leg. I say he just missed it because he realized he might be in the way and was trying to move out of the way and not paying attention at the moment of truth. Another ref with a side vantage point should have jumped in.

I think they are saying we shot poorly _when having to overcome a lopsided game as far as officiating is concerned_. Two missing pieces to the "win" puzzle, not just one.

I thought that Moore's momentum was taking him the other direction. Toure, IIRC, was more moving toward the ref. BUT, the ball went through Higgins' legs fer crissake! He must not have been looking at the ball, but looking for a foul.

It looked like Toure slapped the ball in a westerly direction, let's say, but the ball ended up moving east.

Enough with those sandbag officials from me. 'Gotta knock down a couple more, Shockers.

It's nice for you to help others. Some were saying what you were saying but some posts were related to the referees weren't the reason we lost. Our poor shooting was the reason.

                              • Why ISUR Won

The reason ISUR won is because they shot the ball worse than we did. AND out rebounded.
