I sat in the student section and found the 10 second violation to be blatantly obvious. It was an incredible miss. For Higgins and Self, whom work big time games in BCS conferences, it almost seemed like the game was moving too fast for them. A missed 10 second violation should never occur, and although the count and the shot clock are performed by different operators, you can't tell me that the officials don't glance at the shot clock to verify their count.

Kelly,
We do monitor the game and shot clock at all times.
And I understand the frustration with fans and the call at issue. However...
Please note the OFFICIAL back court count is performed by the official himself. There have been NUMEROUS occasions where the operator starts the clock too soon and cannot always be relied on.
To clarify, the game & shot clock are not to start until the player makes contact AND has possession of the ball. The operator is to exclusively watch the officials hand only (not the ball) and start upon the their chop.
Too many operators either start when the ball is in-bounded or before the official chops the clock.
After all, it isn't like there hasn't been issues with the clock operators in STL. :-)Above all, make the right call.

I don't want to read all the posts since the game Saturday, so forgive me if this has been asked.
As players and coaches went to the locker room at half, it appeared that Jake was really catching it from some of the players and coach. I must have missed something, anyone know why?“Talk low, talk slow and don't say too much.”

Enough. The officiating left a lot to be desired - a wrong call towards the end giving the out of bounds ball back to ISU was really poor also.
Yes, we could have taken care of all these by making more baskets and less turnovers.
It was a one point loss that stinks no matter how you look at it.
Now, let's get another win streak started!
PS
...and how about getting on facebook and voting for David Kyles to participate in the Dunk Contest at the Final Four...only one day left to vote!

dTm,
You sound like a typical frustrated guy. It's ok, we all get old and have bowel movement issues and the internal pressure it creates can cause sudden and irrational outbursts. It's understood.
Besides, you are trying to sound like an expert so why not tell all of us about the biggest college game you've officiated?
Ut ohhh, hasn't happened?
Maybe your biggest High School Game?
No go there either?
Ok, how about your biggest Biddie ball game?
Ooops. Nothing to see here, huh?
Oh well.
Kelly was looking for a possible explanation. It was provided.
End of story.Above all, make the right call.

The fact that you want to rely on the clock operator instead of the official for the count. That says enough right there.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

So I have to ask, who has the longest/shortest chop stroke in college basketball?

They are coming. :-)
I know the anticipation in Shocker Nation is reaching a nuclear detonation level but quite a bit of thought and contemplation goes into the annual Notes, Quotes & Billygoats.
Some things just can't be rushed. ;-)Above all, make the right call.
