This game was crap. I hoped for better. But anyone who has watched the Shox this year cannot be surprised. We play hard. Sometimes we play pretty well, but we don't play smart. We have talented guys who can make enough plays most of the time to win. It will just frustrate you to have expectations. Know that we have a 2nd year coach with, I think, a lot of potential. But it's gonna be a struggle sometimes and growing pains. I think some criticism and critiquing is warranted, but I don't think there is any reason to jump off the cliff."When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

I've been an IB supporter since Marshall left. I've moved from that position to "wait and see" with a lean toward skepticism.
TE HAD TO come out of the game. That would have sent a needed message and made the rest of the team aware that they were going to have to do some scoring, instead of relying on TE.
Then there was the utilization of MU. Instead of feeding him the ball, the guards were using him as a screener 25' from the basket for a screening offense that was incredibly poorly executed. Eldridge pointed out in his article today that many times when the ball handler came off a screen he ran straight into the defender of the wing on that side of the court. Either the wing was out of position or the guard ran the screen the wrong direction. Udeze hardly touched the ball during the period when the Shox lost the lead and then the game.
Then there's Council, Jackson, and Etienne. They are obviously not being held accountable for playing out of control. Yes, I'm including Etienne. The penalty for undisciplined play needs to be higher because Etienne has regressed in that area and Council and Jackson have barely improved.
Then there's all the close games - even against all the overmatched opponents. There's something systemic that's got to be going on that the team seems to let up the moment they get a lead. That's consistent from last year. There seems to be a "let them hang around" mentality on the team and I put that on the coaching staff.
I'm all for encouraging players when they make mistakes. Tell them they're better than that and can do better. But when they don't do better it's time for a change in approach. It's possible that Marshall's methods may have (as Ron Baker put it) crossed the line in IB's way of thinking. IB may have overreacted in the other direction and that doesn't work.

I didn't get to see but the first few minutes of the game (thankfully). I was heartened after the Missouri game when TE only took 7 shots and was thinking we'd see more balance in shot attempts across the team. Wow was I wrong. If you end 4 - 20...at some point you were at best 4 - 16 so maybe you think drive and kick for a bit. I really like TE as a player but his shot selection must improve for this team to improve. I would say at this point in my very bball uneducated view it is the most important thing now given how much Mo has improved his play the past few games. I really like IB but he is going to have to reign him in and explain the off balance floaters and guarded step back 3's are hurting the team as well as his shot at playing in the NBA. IB needs to internalize that it is in his best interest also. The other players at some point are going to get frustrated if it continues.
