Wichita State Shockers vs. Arizona Wildcats Pregame Discussion 11-19-21

He is a typical blueblood arrogant dork talking smack.. And Coach Lloyd is using his best impersonation of a Jedi mind trick by supposedly complimenting the Shocks. It's time to play the game... Go shocks.

The clips of AZ flying and dunking in transition like the Monstars are terrifying. It reminds me of a lot of high school recruit highlight film. Questionable opponents and some pretty poor defense led to a lot of those plays but there’s no doubt they’re long and athletic.

We have guys who can make things happen offensively in transition. Unfortunately, we have shown on multiple occasions that we have several guys who are more than capable of losing focus and not picking up in transition defensively. It ain’t that hard to do. I guarantee you they’ve been coached on it. Can they lock in for 40 minutes and force AZ to play in the half court as often as possible? We shall see.

On the flip side, can we take advantage of their desire to leak out early to grab some offensive boards? It’ll be a balancing act between sending too many guys to rebound, thus leaving the other end of the court exposed if we don’t get the ball, and just selling out completely to keep them from running a la what South Alabama did to us.

It sounds like they want to pass the ball around a lot. That style of play can be really fun to watch. It can also lead to some turnovers if you get too sloppy with your passes and the other team is good enough to get into passing lanes and get some deflections. We’ve been relatively good about that this year so I could see some potential opportunities arising there.

Same sh!t was said when we faced them in 2016. Bigger, more athletic, yada, yada, yada. Then we promptly shoved their Blue Dicks in the dirt. Those Wildcat Asshats are 9 freshman and 7 sophomores. First sign of adversity their gameplay and confidence will go down faster than Marylou Rottencrotch's panties after prom. Screw those Arizona *******.

And some on SN are saying it's over before we even begin. Over? Did you say ?over?? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, no!

Can't wait for our ride to begin tomorrow night.

One way or another this game will be a learning experience. We can listen to the coaches and sprint back on defense every time, limit turnovers and box out and have a chance to win. Or we can do none of that and learn their importance the hard way.

Old man for an Arizona fan here. I've enjoyed reading your fan base's posts. You folks are a lot more active than the fans at BDU (Bear Down University) I'll make a few observations and add a little insight about U of A's current team. The fan base in Tucson is guardedly optimistic. Truth be told, we don't know what we have, just that what we've seen is promising. Some of us get the sense that Coach Llyod is hard-nosed and exacting. It would seem his players are willing to follow his lead. Our starting five is long and athletic, but the real strength for this team may be it's depth. We did well in the transfer portal. We signed a starting shooting guard from Illinois, Justin Kier, a starting power forward from Washington State, Kim Aiken, and a starting guard/wing, Pelle Larson from Utah. These three weren't just starters, they were serious contributors. The backup center is a work in progress, but he's a mountain of a man 7' - 260 who's finally in shape and showing a little athleticism. All that said, Wichita is always gritty and may find a way to win, but they will be put to the test endurance wise. If Arizona is who the fans in Tucson think they are, they will prove it late in the fourth quarter and wear the shockers down. It's college hoops, anything can and will happen. My best guess is the game will be entertaining and decided late. Thank God college basketball is back!

I hope it's not too much to believe (or ask) WSU can shoot in the mid 40 percentile and raise some eyebrows.

Play good perimeter D. Don't have unforced errors. Get back on D because we probably ain't gonna out rebound these guys (maybe). I'd also really like to see our star guard gather 6 or 7 dimes, and shoot .50 from the field. Let's do this!
