    Perhaps.

But if ANYONE is calling my daughter "disgusting names"....etc she should knee him in the groin and kick him while he is down. Screw throwing the bird.

You’re just promoting violence against men. Surely it wouldn’t be ok for the male player to react physically to a female cheerleader calling him names, would it?

To a degree your correct in the first sentence, and I know you're joking on the second. Fact is that our society now thinks people should be severely punished if we offend somebody. To my knowledge there is nothing illegal about that except in the case of men saying something sexual (or close to) in content to a coworker, employee, etc. . Or maybe if someone used the N word while beating a black man. How far these laws go depends on the thoughts of our young people in the future.
projecting what might be for our children and grandchildren in the future, looks bleak with their thoughts of wokeness and cancel culture.

I am getting too political for this forum but I feel it does apply to college athletes as well. Teach young people right from wrong and be firm and just with your punishments. Don't kill their ability for progress by cancelling them.

Playing basketball as a representative of the school is a privilege... A privilege that can be revoked. It's not "cancelling". It's consequences for actions. In this case for disgracing the university by your actions. Is ending his season too much? Depends on how much season is left and his track record. I will say if I said those things he did, while on a company business trip, towards another companies executive assistant (supporting staff for the other company... Ala a cheerleader) ... I would expect to be fired.

The cheerleader falls under this too. While she was provoked, her flipping the bird in the middle of the court also is something you should know not to do. So punishment but might account for the fact that it was reactionary versus instigating

Also I wouldn't put this in a category of "offending someone". No person in their right mind would think that the things he said are acceptable

              • I think we all agree neither the player or cheerleader did what we feel is right. But the punishment we disagree on. I come from the viewpoint of these still being not fully mentally mature people, while some view them as total adults.
some of us were lucky enough to develop as full adults by the time we hit 20-22, and most of us who were lucky enough had parents who taught us how to be adults.
In a case where the was harm to nobody and no crime was committed, it should be a coaches choice on how to guide these 2 individuals based on how a coach feels. If they are perpetual trouble makers and continually represent their university poorly, sure end their seasons, dismiss them from the team, whatever. But if it's something out of character or someone a coach feels he can guide to be a better human being, he should make that call, but not based on athletic ability.

                • Do we know if the cheerleader was instigating any of it? It's not unheard of to.have cheerleaders that also run their mouths from time to time. I've heard stories of such things then they get offended if you respond at all. Not suggesting it's common or it's what happened but it does happen as well.

But both were idiots. Neither should be stripped of their positions because of it.

                  • UNI ended this dirtbags season. Amazing that a Catholic University would tolerate this crap.

Starting with the entire cheerleading squad right? That makes the most sense.

                            Certainly implied, at a minimum.

                              1. He must have been watching the Oscars, and
                              2. They should allow this in Track & Field to make the sport even more exciting .

What kind of punishment ces down from the state governing body on that? Ks would put the end to his season right there.
